MAKING A START IS WHAT MATTERS . . .

I had a great weekend away at the BD South and West Camp, delivering the mindset sessions and training on Dot😍

This time of year for me is all about deciding on what your winter project is going to be. The winter is the ideal time to take stock, make plans and look ahead. It’s when you can really put the work in both on and off the horse to maximise your training.

It doesn’t matter whether you have an arena or an indoor, having a winter project is about doing the things you never have Time to do in the summer, to learn, to grow, to make mistakes and in turn, make progress!

We have a lot of work to do this winter, and I have a lot of learning to do to stay ahead of Dot!!

What’s your winter project!?

If you want help staying motivated this winter and setting up your own winter project why not join us for the Winning at Winter Audio program!?

We will cover how to stay motivated and delve into goal setting and year planning so that you can make these dark winter months count regardless of how much you can ride!!

YES . . . YOU READ THAT RIGHT -GOAL SETTING COULD BE HOLDING YOU BACK!!

If it's not done correctly for you and how you process information!!

I have 2 main ways that I start goal setting with, one of which is a Skill analysis, and the other is a timeline.

Skills Analysis is all about identifying the main skills needed for riding and setting realistic targets to develop or maintain them. This approach can be applied to any area you want to improve, not just performance!
These are both great ways of tracking your progress, we use monthly or weekly themes to track progress in each area. By focusing on the tiny, actionable steps that add up, you can see and celebrate the improvements along the way!

Riders are really good at setting big goals, but not always so great at filling the gap of how to get there which is where a timeline can help.

In the Winning at Winter Program, I will be talking you through both of these techniques and how to do this for yourself, providing you with the exercise to give it a go. Not only will you learn how to set realistic and relevant goals, you will also be held accountable throughout the month as I will check in every week on what your them for the week is, and be able to provide support and schooling inspiration where needed!!

Only a few days left to take advantage of this epic value investment which is currently less than a lesson for a months training!! 🤯🤯🤯

ITS JUST NOT AS EASY!!

With challenging weather, shorter days, and less time in the saddle, progress can feel slower—or non-existent! It’s easy to lose momentum when you can’t see improvement.
⭐ Remember, success isn't just about how far you've come, but how well you bounce back. Reflect on the hard work you've already put in and recognize that any step forward, no matter how small, is progress.

Winter can bring a sense of “I should be here by now” or “I should be achieving more.” But starting fresh from where you are now is powerful. 🌱 When you let go of where you think you should be, you free yourself to focus on small, achievable steps toward where you want to go.
⭐Set micro-goals that tie into your current routine—like weekly themes, based on what you are already working on to help give you focus.

Winter can make even the most determined riders feel directionless or unmotivated. With less time for big goals, it’s easy to feel like you’re “just getting by.”
⭐️ Design an unshakeable winter strategy with realistic goals and backup plans. A monthly target with weekly, tickable tasks helps keep the motivation alive!

Use this as your chance to regroup, take stock of where you are, and grab the reins for a fresh start. From the 1st November I will be running the Winning at Winter Programme which is a 1 month Audio Program with 3 x20 mins training delivered to your phone every week, with tasks and exercises to complete to help you build your winter strategy, that not only gives you focus but will boost your motivation and leave you with a plan for the dark winter months ahead.
Make sure you check out the early bird offer that is only available until Monday!!

THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE SURE NOTHING STOPS YOUR PROGRESS 👇👇👇

⭐️Decide on what you want to work on and WHY, the why is super important, and im affraid 'to get better' isnt enough - what is it exactly you want to be better at? How will this impact your horse? How will you feel when you have achived it?

⭐️Can you break this down in to monthly steps - something you can aim for every month? And how will you measure this?

⭐️ What are the tiny tickable targets that would add up to the monthly goals- these can be tiny, smaller than you think!

⭐️ What needs to be done consistently - and can you tie this to something you are already doing? E.g everytime you fill your water buckets how many single leg squats can you do?

⭐️ And finally design an unshakable winter stratergy with your energetic minimum, realistic swap outs and a 'if I cant do this ...I will do this' pick and mix.

This is what I work with members on through the winter, however this year it is going to be available to ALL!! One of my favourite courses - Winning at Winter is making a return in a brand new format!!
This month long audio programme will deliver 3 x20 mins trainings a week, with a weekly task to complete helping you build your winter stratergy!!

There is an early bird offer for this week only!!

I dont know about you but these last few weeks have been a stark reminder that winter is on its way 🌧🌧

Having a winter stratergy is absolutely key 🔑 to coming out the otherside feeling like you havnt just survived but made progress.

My top 3 tips for this are:

👉 What is your minimum!? Instead of beating yourself up that you havnt done enough, why not get ahead and manage your expectations. I sit down and decide what my weekly minimum would be for the horses - doing something 3 times a week every week is far better than doing 7 days one week and once the next. Consistancy is so important for both motivation and progress.

👉 Use the shorter days to work on yourself, if you cant ride for whatever reason what can you do!? Be it start pilates, or even sit down a make a list to work on from your dressage sheets, these small steps off the horse could make your time on the horse more productive!

👉 This is a very obvious but very important one - check the weekly weather! When you plan what your going to do each week, have a quick look at the weather for the week ahead. If its blowing a gale one day would yourschooling session be better on another day? Or is there a day that moght be better to hack when you finish early or in a weekend? We cant control the weather but by having an idea can help you make informed choices.

Making Winter count can be done both in and out of the saddle - if you cant do plan A, focus on what you CAN do rather than what you cant!

One of the big values of my membership is that it’s a community that supports each other and place where we can celebrate the small wins together.

It was lovely when at a clinic today Tegan came to her lesson having sourced the paper copies of all 3 that have my training series in 😍😍

Made even more special that Beccy and Magnus were the lesson before so Magnus got to see the cover himself 😂😍

I’m always so greatful for all the epic riders I get to work with and having them celebrate with me is even nicer!!

Dot doing what Dot does 💃😍

A long but worthwhile trip to Arena UK for the finals!

The goal was to have rideability throughout the tests, after the arrival of Dots sharpe alter-ego - Winter Dotty, at the beginning of the week!!
Which we achieved, she felt mega! However she was so rideable that she did exactly what I said which unfortunately was the wrong amount of strides between changes in both set of tempis 🙈🤣 however they were lovely changes so in Dots eyes it was obviously a great result!

So in the 7hrs I had between tests I remembered how to count again, and we rode our freestyle in the evening, with just 1 unscheduled turbo boost when Dot felt the trumpets in her musuc were a bit much 🤣 however she held it together to go straight into the most difficult part of the test, and finish 5th in a very close class.😍

In her first year at PSG she has not only represented 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, she has a qualified and competed at the summer championships in 2 classes. There is so much more to come yet which is so exciting!!

The preperation for this week wasnt exactly ideal with me being ill in the run up. Huge thanks goes to super groom who out of his natural habitat kept me on the straight and narrow all week! ❤️

Huge thanks to everyone who helps and supports throught our journey!

Feeling intimidated by other riders and horses!?

The feeling is all too real and I can tell you now you won't be the first nor the last to feel like that.

Somethings to ponder -
🤯Do you pay less of an entry fee to those other riders?
🤯Does a shiny hat or black horse with white socks make them perform better than a correctly trained 'normal' horse!?
🤯What if riding a flashy horse or being a gold rider came with extra pressure to fulfil that expectation?
🤯 What would it mean if it turned out that you got just as good or even better score as them!?

Worrying about others means that you are spending less time and energy focusing on you and your horse, and you owe your horse that time and attention for being the goddam legend he/she is, for coming from where you have to where you are now!

Combatting comparison, feeling confident, and focusing on your own plan are all things we will be discussing in next week 5 Day Audio Program.
If you want to -
✅Feel confident at shows
✅Convert what you know you are capable of to your performance
✅Feel more relaxed and prepared
Then join me for my first EVER Audio Program, you will have 5 mini podcasts delivered to your phone Mon-Fri, through your own personal channel to me. Here you ask me questions, and get advise on how to be more confident when competing!

'IT'S SO USEFUL TO BE ABLE TO WORK ON THE MINDSET IN MY TRAINING' a client told me earlier this week.

And I wholeheartedly agree!! We spend so much time working on the horse, working on our position, understanding the test, and learning the technical elements we often forget that how we approach and see all of the above, which can totally affect how it impacts our own and our horse's improvement.

Mindset is as fundamental as all of the technical elements and if it isn't built in through your training, as part of the building blocks to success, there is a chance that your progress wall could come tumbling down.

The most common example of this, is when you can produce the work you want at home but you can't at a competition.
If we aren't implementing the work to build your confidence in your own system at home then why would you trust it in a high challenge environment!?
Mindset work plugs the gaps between where you are now and where you want to be.

This has been such a huge thing over the last month with clients I have decided to run a BRAND NEW 5-day Audio Programme on the 16th - 20th of September, where audio trainings on how to be more confident when competing, will be delivered directly to your phone for you to listen to at your leisure up until the new year!!

I have released a sneaky Early Bird offer which will only be available until Monday 7pm, as well as a super special VIP Upgrade. To take advantage of this epic value investment head to the event to sign up before the price goes up!! (member's discounts are automatically applied at the checkout!)

29/08/2024

The other night on a Team Training I got asked how I manage my energy levels around competition, my answer was that I manage my stress.
However, this means knowing where your stress comes from, for me that is in the preparation. I am a much calmer far less stressed person if I know I am on top of everything I need to do!
3 things I have implemented that have really helped me remove stress and enjoy the day:

👉 Creating a list of all the things that need doing in the run-up to a show, this includes washing the whites!🤣 I include the small things because they are the things that I can get done days or even the week before the show and tick of my list. Remember you cant see progress unless you are tracking it so every tick on my list is a tick closer to feeling 'ready'.

👉Taking 10 mins after my last training session to write down what my 3 trigger words will be, what they feel like when I have them, and any exercises that will help me in my warm up to achieve them.

👉 Writing down a day plan, from the time I get up, right up until I have finished my test. It's not set in stone but provides me with structure, and makes me allow plenty of time to get things done! Just having that written down helps me process what I need to do when.

These 3 things, that actually take very little time bring order to my chaotic world, and allow me to feel like I have controlled the controllable.
Over the last month through the Boost Program, I have been supporting riders in creating routines and habits that set them up for success when they compete.
This ranges from designing and trailing their own warm up plan and writing a test crib sheet to planning their day and positively taking the learnings from their outings.
Last week one of them said to me I have never felt so prepared, and when asked how that impacted them going into a competition, they said it made them feel more confident!!
THIS IS WHY I MADE THE BOOST PROGRAMME - SMALL CHANGES MAKE BIG DIFFFERENCE!!

If you wan to feel more confident on a show day then drop me a DM as I have just 2 spaces on the Boost Program for September!

Throwback to 2018 with Gkar which was the last time I attended Home Nations at PSG level, fast forward 6 years and all being well Dotty will be doing the same this weekend!😍

Why was the trip in 2018 so memorable!? I would love to say it was because it was my first time wearing the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 flag in my tails but it was actually hugely over shadowed by the fact we travelled many hours up north, to do a hack a quite literally 1 test 🤣🤣
However it was a huge learning curve on trusting my gut and the horse!

G had always been Mr Consistent, which is what made him a great team horse, however whilst warming up for the first test of the competition, he totally lost the plot, a pure flight reaction 😳 he had never been like it before and just wanted to be out of the indoor. I ended up taking him out of the warm up and getting off him down the track so we could let his adrenaline drop. 20 mins later they called me for my test, i got on, went in, did some movements round the outside of the arena and rode my test like normal- i had to trust my process as thats all i had at that point! Amaziny we did a very reasonable test! However day 2s test was in that indoor, and try as i might, he was having none of it even with acoustic ears on, there was something he didnt like, and was basically unrideable in there!

So i had to make a decision- I withdrew. G had never done it before at any of the hundreds of venues he had been to, and actually never did it again. I made the decision based on what I thought was best for him at the time, I had to choose to either practice being stressed in the white boards or save him for another day.

2 weeks later he went on to win the Inter I pet plan with total confidence. 😍 Sometimes things happen to challenge us to trust and believe rather than to stop us. G went on never to have anoher melt down for the rest of his career!

It would of been easy in that situation to have a set back, however being unflappable and trusting your process is what I am always here for!

Balance, Suppleness and Contact are frequently written on all our sheets, but do you really delve into why and how you can improve them!?

Look for clues on your sheets such as 'on the forehand' which would imply they are carrying more weight on their forehand, or falling out/in meaning the balance is moving laterally.
It's also important to know what is a good balance for your horse, at the stage it is at, for example, we will not be expecting the same balance of a horse that has just started their journey to one that has been working away for a few years.

A horse that is typically balanced for the level it is at will be:

👉Maintaining a Rhythm

👉Can change direction and perform moves appropriate for its level whilst carrying the weight evenly.

👉Maintain Suppleness laterally and then over the back

Suppleness is how flexible your horse is in a given direction.💪

Did you know there are 2 types of suppleness!?🧐

🐎Lateral - from side to side - e.g inside bend or bend around your leg, through the horses whole body.

🐎Longitudinal (aka suppleness over the back) - covers contact, relaxation and ground cover.

Contact is the created through the connection between you and the horse.

Contact should be a result of a good rhythm and suppleness.

There should be weight in the rein that is not too heavy, but also not too light.

As the horse develops greater suppleness over his back, the connection will improve resulting in a more consistent contact.

Don't forget the Bank Holiday Bundles are available until Midnight Monday!
The All about series covers these 3 subjects in detail and link together nicely to build your knowlege on how to improve them!
This is an epic value investment of just £44 (valued at £60!!) These courses are normally only available to members so make sure you dont miss out on these never seen before packages!!

3 reasons you may be leaving marks in the arena . . .

👉Do you have a warm up plan? Just by having a check list for success, or some go to exercises you can take your warm up from just killing time trotting round the edge to being ready to a well prepared test! Even just thinking about what you need in the warm up can set the intention and get yoir brain operating from its comfort zone rather than in stress!

👉 Do you read your sheets? And I mean REALLY read them? Look for what underlined, know what your high mark gainers are so you can really nail them, and look at the 0.5 marks - what dimple thing can you do to top them up? Remember 6.5 all the way through is 65%, 7s all the way through is 70%, 0.5 can make a big difference!!

👉 Are you being accurate!? One of the easiest ways to pick up marks!! Judges are looking at the way of going and how accurately you ride the movement, so even if you a loving the feeling if your circle is too small you will loose some marks! There are easy things to pick up marks on - centre lines being one, every test has them, a minimum of 2, so make these a high mark gainer!

Want to know more about these subjects!? I have created some special, never done before BANK HOLIDAY BUNDLES!!
I have put together 3 bundles of online courses on a very special bank holiday offer!
The Competition Bundle contains a course on each of these subjects! We delve in to each of them talking you through how to design yoir very own warm up plan, how to be more accurate and hiw to break diwn your dressage sheet!! You get all of this for an epic value investment of just £44!!

So if you want to top up your marks download my app now to get started!!
