Ideal for exploring the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains & Hay on Wye, and for star gazing in our dark skies. ~ A note from your hosts, Helena & Sam Hale ~
We warmly welcome all our guests to Cefnmachllys farmstead, where we consider ourselves custodians of this magical corner of Wales. Back in 2013 we set about bringing our traditional 17th Century longhouse back into habitation in a detailed con
servation project using local craftsmen who specialise in historic buildings. We continue to develop our small holding along regenerative organic principles, ensuring the farm is a haven for wildlife and a special place for all who visit. There are 4 acres of woodland and 26 acres of unimproved meadowland sitting betwixt a stream and the River Dulas. We aim to balance wild spaces with careful and sensitive management using traditional coppicing, hedge laying and grazing with sheep and cattle. We are also developing a new woodland area, in commemoration of our wedding in 2019. Our philosophy for conservation using traditional and local materials has been extended to the Shepherd's hut, which was constructed by a local company using local FSC timber and Welsh sheep's wool insulation. We are very choosy when it comes to sourcing quality provisions for our hut guests too, including Welsh charcoal, our own or local firewood, homemade apple juice, our own hens' free range eggs, and Black Mountains roast coffee to name a few things your will find included or available for purchase during your stay! We sell our own vegetables and homemade sourdough when available. There are limitless activities we can recommend to keep you entertained during your stay, whether it's gazing up at the dark starry skies, wandering through our woodlands, swinging under the leaves of a big oak tree, dipping your toes in the running stream, cwtching up by the firepit with a glass of your favourite tipple, or taking adventures away from the farm. With views to the Black Mountains from your hut, and the Brecon Beacons visible from the lane, the wilderness of Wales awaits you! The famous book town of Hay-on-Wye is close by, as is Brecon and many beauty spots, river activities and excellent restaurants. Many of our guests are keen to meet our friendly Ryland sheep and other animals - we are more than happy to show you around! We look forward to sharing our special slice of Wales with all who visit and will happily answer any of your enquires before your stay! Please note that sadly we cannot cater for dogs or other pets, due to our own animals living at the farmstead.
