With travel on standstill, we’re making our own magic ✨by bringing the world to our table. We’ve definitely been using this time to dive into some cookbooks and recipes from around the world. We’ve conquered a Coq au Vin and homemade gnocchi, a flamin’ bone broth ramen and a spread of Middle Eastern morish mezzes, a real American cheesecake and a gluten-free pomegranate cashew cake (like this one on )! Positivity is picturesque ✨. This mother weaves carpets from sunrise to sunset. On top of that she cooks, cleans, farms the land, carries a tremendous amount of weight on her head of farm produce or wood, and puts a roof over the heads of her three children. Meanwhile her husband has been sat on the wall totally out of it. No help has been offered. After a long day what makes her smile is the dream that her daughter who she has put in school has the chance to lead a different life. When we asked if she will pass down her skills to her daughter she laughs and shakes her head saying, ‘no I don’t want her to have my life, she’s going to do clever things like be a doctor or work in a bank.’

This little girl is one of her daughters who has a learning disability. She has to stay home with her mother as her sister and brother go to school. All she wanted was to have her picture taken. When we showed it to her her whole face lit up and she ran to her mother excitedly to share. It was she who held out her hand as we were strolling through the streets and led us to her house and inspiring mother.
•
The young woman standing in the last photo had to cut school short on account of her husband so she could support the family. But she refuses to let life get her down. Her optimism to go back to school to complete her studies is the driving force behind her current sacrifice.

This post is not to belittle the current state of global meltdown but to give a little perspective.

Yes, these unreal colours aren’t the result of a over-edited snap. This is actually how captivating Cape Peron is in Francois Peron National Park! Park up the car and explore this part of Shark Bay World Heritage Area along Australia’s Coral Coast in a ‘tinnie’ so you don’t miss out on paradisiacal views like this one! It’s a short flight from Perth (or about a 9-hour drive) but totally worth it to see dolphins, manta rays, turtles, dugongs and this incredible contrast of colours.
