The end of the season is the time for doing those essential boat repairs and general maintenance. However, we had to be a bit swifter when the toilet decided to be off sick for the day.

A speedy repair and all is well again. Phew!

We have to be honest, the weather isn't always in our favour when sailing around the Greek Islands. On one of our recent outings we didn't have any actual rain but it was a bit chilly beating up into wind in a strong breeze.

The right clothing can beat most weather conditions though!

Wow! What a lovely sight we were treated to the other evening. Our last trip of season has taken us to Stari Grad in Croatia, one of the oldest towns in Europe. We moored up and had our evening meal here - it's a great life this sailing life!

Motoring in a dead calm through the gulf of Corinth surrounded by huge, uninhabited, bare mountains. These beasties heat up in the day and then throw down strong katabatic winds. We had 25-35 knots last night but the anchor held but i was grateful that we had set the anchor alarm.

We woke the other morning, after a very breezy night, to find we were surrounded by sea Salp. We have never seen these harmless organisms before but were rather put off our morning swim!

Salps are semi-transparent barrel-shaped marine animals that move through the water by contracting bands of muscles which ring the body. They are often mistaken for jellyfish apparently.

We had the privilege of having a relatively rare view of the Al Maleas Lighthouse on the second most southerly point of mainland Greece.

The seas around the cape are notoriously treacherous and difficult to navigate due to occasional powerful storms and variable weather.

The notoriety of the cape is the reason why the Corinth Canal was built so shipping could avoid the peninsula.

We were lucky enough to time our visit to coincide with an uncharacteristically calm day, so we went for it!

One of the unique experiences Solo Sailing Holidays provide with our sailing holidays is the opportunity to explore not just the waves but the countryside too.

On one of our day trips this month we visited Monemvasia in the Pelopennese, a town founded in the sixth century, exclusively carved on the slopes of a rock, and one of the oldest continually inhabited fortified towns in Europe.

A brief break from life on the waves - we took a day trip to Messini, Kalamatra while waiting for some decent sailing weather to return.

It was an interesting experience and two hungry mouths greeted us dockside on our return to our boat, Zulu.

For Info: Messini is a municipal unit and the seat town of the municipality of Messini within the regional unit of Messenia in the region of Peloponnese, one of 13 regions into which Greece has been divided.
