Another amazing 5* review from our lovely guests this week.🦌

"Deerleap Cottage was indeed a great find. The reviews were all true. Lorna and Neil are so friendly and welcoming and so interesting to talk and listen to. The cottage was delight. Everything you could want or need for a break away was right there. Wonderful shower, that alone is worth 5 stars! And then there’s the superb bed! It hugs you and is so comfortable; I’ve never slept so well on a first night away from home. I’m already missing that comfort ‘hug’!
The cottage is full of interesting design features, paintings, ornaments, hangings and fabrics.
The view is so calming and peaceful and the chickens make good ‘conversationalists’!
The hosts have made a whole raft of information sheets on where to go and where to eat, full of useful information and appealing outings to try.
I hope to visit again, this is a great base for lots of places to visit, to walk, to enjoy.
Well done Lorna and Neil and thank you so much for making us so welcome and providing so much information."

Another 5* review on Airbnb!
We still have good availability from September onwards. (link below review).
"Both Lorna and her husband Neil were absolutely lovely. They gave clear instructions on how to check in and the recommendations were spot on.
The lodge was immaculate and the bed was extremely comfortable. The views were stunning and there was plenty to do locally. The eggs were wonderful touch and much appreciated.
On the final day Neil gave us a fantastic idea of where to go on our way home. Both Lorna and Neil are excellent hosts. We would come back in a heartbeat." James

We’re delighted to be re-opening to visitors today. In addition to the Tudor keep, we’ll be opening sections of the West Wing, the Garrison Theatre and those rooms which house the lighthouse exhibitions. By July, the castle will also enjoy brand new interpretation, providing an explanation of the castle’s amazing history from the Tudor period to the Second World War.

On site, you may also spot conservation in action as English Heritage will be conserving the Keep stairway. Added during the late 1880s, when the internal stair between the ground and first floor of the keep was removed, it is a cantilever stair built using limestone blocks. There will be a temporary support on the stair while the limestone treads are conserved and the balustrade is repaired. You can read more about this important work here: https://www.hurstcastle.co.uk/whats-on/

The regular ferry service will run from Keyhaven to the castle and refreshments will be available from outside the castle entrance.

We look forward to seeing you soon and thank you for your continued support!

Our guests went on the twice this week, they enjoyed it so much. Once to visit Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight and then to do The Needles Trip. The best place to keep cool this week is in or on the water!

We love seeing the Brent Geese on our walk round the marshes. You can hear them before you see them! They winter here so now is an ideal time to view them.

In autumn we see the arrival of some 30,000 brent geese from Siberia to spend the winter feeding on eel grass and grazing in coastal fields. Their dangerous journey takes them along the Northern European coastline, across frozen land, through gale force winds, and over stormy seas.

The annual round trip means a single goose can fly over 135,000 miles in its lifetime between its winter and summer homes.

Wrap up warm and head to one of the geese’s favoured coastal haunts, such as Farlington Marshes or Lymington and Keyhaven Marshes nature reserves.
