I am super proud and over the moon to announce that I have been chosen as a Cruise Ambassador for my company Travel Counsellors.

Going forward this will mean I will have a lot more contact with all the cruise lines building even stronger relationships, more ship visits and I will be helping to build an even bigger Cruise Business at Travel Counsellors by being on hand for my colleagues for all things cruise related.

Shore Excursion to St Tropez and St Grimaud

I’ll be honest on most cruises I’m not really an excursion kind of person, I tend to get off and have a wander around the port, do a bit of people watching and hop back on.
I think I’ve been missing out!

We all met at 9am start for a full day excursion booked with Virgin Voyages, Virgin only use local companies/guides with their excursions for sustainability and to support/give back to the local community.

It’s approx a 1.5 - 2hr coach from Toulon to St.Tropez part of the journey you travel though mountains and a stunning forest (if you do suffer from travel sickness - take some tablets/wear the bands but it’s not too bad)

We had a really lovely local lady called Katherine who kept us updated with all the history of the area during the journey, whilst the weather wasn’t fantastic for us yesterday on arrival in St Tropez the sun started to shine.

What a stunning place, the yachts and boats in the marina are worth more than anything you could dream of (quick fact to dock one of the large yachts in the marina in town costs 60,000 euros A DAY!! The cheapest studio flat overlooking the marina would start from 3 million Euros upwards 😱)

Katherine explained St Tropez as a “village” but it’s not that small, it’s fairly quiet until the height of summer when over 300,000 people can visit on one day.

The marina is impressive but I loved all the little quirky streets, buildings and the market, everyone was super friendly and whilst you could get lost meandering around it’s always easy to head back to the marina.

We had a guided walking tour and we’re then left to our own devices for a couple of hours which was fun popping in and out of shops and talking to the locals at the market

There are lots of designer shops, artisan shops, tourist shops and some stunning patisseries, for lunch we went to a little outside restaurant a little bit along from the marina and it was 10 euros for a baguette filled with delicious ham and cheese and 6 euros for a coke or 7 euros for a wine.
If you want to eat right in the centre or right on the marina then prices are higher.

We then continued to St Grimaud - I loved it here too, very quiet with pastel coloured houses all set around a maze of canals - think Venice but without the crowds or smell.

You can higher your own little boats to sail around the canals or go on a boat trip as we did - it was one of the most peaceful and serene boat trips I’ve ever done, then a quick mooch around the town market and shops and back on the coach to return to the ship.

All in all the day starts at 9 and you are back around 5pm - now something I normally always advise is to book excursions through the cruise line as they guarantee to get you back to the port, or the ship will wait for you etc yesterday the back on board time 530pm - there was huge amounts of traffic coming back into Toulon, we got back to the ship around 540 so not too bad, however if it had been worse and we were not on a ship excursion then the ship could of left and it would of been down to myself to get to the next port or home!

TOP TIP
As soon as you have booked your Virgin Voyage - download the app and on the Home Screen there is a section that says prepare to sail.
There are 7 steps - don’t worry about the first 6 right now but go to step 7 and choose your boarding time.
For most guests boarding will be between 2-4pm - the earlier you do this the earlier the boarding time.

For Rockstars, Deep Blue Extra, or if you have purchased Splash for your bash or Splash for Romance then you will have priority boarding.

You can drop your cases off early at the port (normally around 9am) and then go off to shop or sightsee.

Come boarding time there are various queues according to your time and a separate check in area for Rock Stars guests, once through the check in procedure you receive your band and then shortly you will be in the ship 😍

The reason for the later check in times is that once you are onboard your cabin is immediately available (luggage is delivered very quickly) and on the day you disembark you don’t have to be out of your cabin until 1030am

It’s a very slick and quick process.
