💛Our signature song is loved by babies.💚

The beat is 60 beats per minute which is the same as the mother’s resting heart beat. Which is one of the reasons why babies find it so calming.

It’s a start of a new term coming up this week and so I thought I would introduce myself to lots of new customers.

I’m Liz and I have ran Baby Sensory North Cumbria for coming up 10 years this month!
I also run Baby Sensory West Cumbria .

I trained as a Nursery Nurse and gained my NNEB qualification nearly 30 years ago.
I’ve had experience in private Nursery’s and also Nursery’s attached to Primary school’s.

I then progressed onto working as a Family Worker for Social Services where I worked for 14years. Once my children were all at school I was looking for a new challenge and Baby Sensory North Cumbria (then it was called Baby Sensory Carlisle)was up for sale.

A little bit about me.

🐑You will have probably guessed from some of my posts over the summer is that I live on the family run farm and help out during busy times.

👧👦👧I have 3 children ( well all now teenagers)Jessica is 20, Amy 17 and Lewis 15 years old.

🏃‍♀️I love to fell run and I am super lucky as where I live I can just open my front door and the fells are there.

🪴I love to garden also ,though I’m no expert.

🍫🍷I have a sweet tooth for chocolate and love a glass of moscato wine on a Friday night.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Want to know how to sign "play"?

As our baby's grow and develop we use the word "play" more often than we realise;

"Would you like to play with this ball?"

"Is it play-time?"

"Let's go and play at the park"

"Grandma is coming to play with you today"

If you don't know how to sign "play", download our Baby Sensory® Signbook app to find out.

The app includes all of the words you use most often with your baby so you can learn the signs for them and practise at your own pace.

There are SO many ways you can play with your baby.

You may even be playing with your baby without realising.

Playing with your baby doesn't necessarily have to involve toys.

And it doesn't need to be a planned or prepared activity either.

Playing with your baby might include:

-playing or singing music or nursery rhymes
-reading
-showing your baby props* such as a chiffon scarf, rainbow ribbon or baby safe mirror
-tummy time activities
-splashing in the bath

The most important thing to know is that all types of play will be beneficial to your baby.

*please note that adult supervision is always required when your baby is playing with props and/or toys.

You don’t need to put extra time aside for sensory play with your baby.

Routine activities such as feeding, nappy changing, dressing, bathing, cuddling, carrying and preparing for sleep all provide opportunities for sensory development.

Likewise, any kind of outing including trips to the supermarket, walks in the park, visiting friends and activities such as swimming all stimulate your baby's senses.

To find out more about how to stimulate your baby's sense and sensory play read our latest blog: https://www.babysensory.com/sensoryplayfrombirth

How do you like to play with your baby?

Our Founder, and leading parenting expert, Dr Lin Day is a big advocate of playing with your baby and encouraging your baby to play.

She has done a huge amount of research into baby play and knows just how important it is to a baby's development.

This is because play is how babies learn about the world, themselves, other people and their own culture.

It also lays the foundation for reading, writing, mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, language, and scientific discovery. WOW!

However, it doesn't matter how you play with your baby. Play can be quiet or noisy, energetic, or passive, social, or non-social, relaxed, or serious, imaginative or purposeful. It can involve baby toys or no toys at all!

All types of play will support your baby's development and help them to make sense of the world around them.

Never ever worry about feeding your baby during your Baby Sensory® class.

You are welcome to feed your baby however, wherever and whenever you wish.

It doesn't matter whether you're breastfeeding, formula feeding, combination feeding, feeding sat on the floor, feeding sat on a chair, feeding with a cover-up on, feeding at the start of the class or feeding all the way through the class...
..what's most important is that you and your baby are comfortable and happy ❤️

*For World Breastfeeding Week we've included this fabulous photo of two of our Baby Sensory® class leaders breastfeeding their babies whilst on a recent photoshoot!

Good idea if you loose toddlers or older ones.

Good idea if you loose toddlers or older ones.

⚠️ The prospect of losing a child in a busy area is pretty terrifying isn’t it.

It’s important to have a plan in case it ever does happen.

✅ Teach your child to:

1 -Stay still
2 - Look for a family with children
3 - Look for a member or staff. Depending on where you are – you might need to teach them how to spot a staff member.

💪🏼 You could also write your phone number on their arm in case they get lost if you’re going somewhere very busy.

➡️ Please share this post with all the parents you know.
