Torrential rain on my journey to Kingsbarns Golf Links yesterday and again while sitting in the clubhouse after the round ,and In between it was glorious. First Tour Operator golf day I have managed for a long time at Kingsbarns so great to catch up with old friends. The welcome from Audrey and the team was only surpassed by the amazing condition of the course and the delicious fish and chips for lunch. Really enjoyable round honourably halved. Was 2 under on the first three par 3s then four putted the 15th !!! Loved every minute of it. Good luck everyone for the season ahead.

I am truly honoured to receive the Special Recognition Award 2024 at last nights Scottish Golf Tourism Awards. To receive this, and to have it happen in front of so many industry colleagues who I am privileged to call my friends, was a humbling experience. Just when I thought I couldn’t get any more emotional, my family were brought on to present me with the award.

If I had any inkling this was going to happen I would have managed to say some more appropriate words of thanks, specifically to everyone at DC Thomson and The Kingsmills Hotel who put on such an outstanding Scottish Golf Tourism Week in Inverness.

The true success of tourism in Scotland is derived from developing mutually beneficial partnerships and it’s the golf sector where these collaborations can produce amazing results and this will surely be the start of many new relationships.

SIGTOA is an association I have been proud to Chair on two occasions. The members, who are all competitors, continually surprise me with the ease in which they share information and statistics which, in turn, allow us to evaluate booking trends and patterns of the international golfer coming to Scotland.

SIGTOAs partnership with the , where we mitigate all of the carbon emissions associated with clients’ travel around the home of golf, is a world first and something all members are committed to.

Just like last night, and after my own diagnosis, I encourage all men who may be experiencing a slight change to the flow and frequency in which they urinate to get a PSA test to help identify if they have early stages of Prostate Cancer, which if caught early can be successfully treated.

Playing The Old Course is always a great experience but to play it at the end of your tour after playing Turnberry, Prestwick, Muirfield and The Jubilee is just a little bit more special.

Last week Penn State PGM lucked out on some good weather for their bi-annual tour to Scotland.

Thanks to everyone who made this a memorable trip for the forty students, faculty and friends who traveled.

The season got underway on Saturday with the spring break arrival of Penn State PGM for a seven night tour to Scotland.

Starting of on the west coast at Trump Turnberry the tour got underway with a round on the Ailsa Course. En route to Edinburgh the journey was broken with a round at the home of The Open Championship Prestwick Golf Club before a two night stay in the city.

Today all 40 golfers will play and lunch at Muirfield, then it’s off to St Andrews for four nights and rounds over The Jubilee and The Old Course.

It was great to see you all again.

Job Vacancy - Lundin GC - Club Chef & Steward

Lundin Golf Club was established over 155 years ago and is ranked in the top 50 courses in Scotland.
We are now seeking an individual or couple to provide a full catering and events services as well as manage our bar. We are offering a retainer of £20k per annum plus the profits from the catering activities (catering turnover should be more than £200k per annum for an ambitious and conscientious chef and steward).
A 2-bedroom apartment in the clubhouse is part of the package.

The position
Our new chef and steward will be expected to:
• Provide a full range of high quality and homecooked
food in the lounge and dining room
from snacks and meals to buffets and more
formal dining.
• Run a licensed member’s restaurant.
• Recruit, train and supervise front of house
service staff so as to provide an outstanding
welcome to members and visitors to the
clubhouse.
• Maintain and ensure up-to-date and
appropriate Health and Safety and Food Hygiene standards in the kitchen and lounge/dining
areas.
• Manage enquiries and bookings to cater for members and visitors.
• Ensure the safety and security of the Clubhouse premises.
• Liaise on a daily basis with your line manager – our General Manager.

Whilst previous experience in a golf club would be an advantage, we are seeking an ambitious and conscientious chef and steward to help us improve the service we offer our members and visitors alike.
We do expect evidence of a high level of customer service.
We are open to discussions regarding the structure and detail of the partnership for the right candidate and further details can be obtained from the General Manager on [email protected].
