It was a pleasure hosting Klaus Nadizar, Chief Editor and Founder of Simply Golf, Germany's leading golf magazine, on the North Coast.

We extend our sincere thanks to Jeanie Murray at Portstewart Golf Club and Robert Irvine at for their gracious hospitality and showing Klaus around their stunning courses on short notice. Portstewart's recent renovation of a number of holes on the Championship Strand Course truly showcases this extrodinary course - (Photos 2&3)

During his visit, Klaus also explored the renowned Dunluce and Valley courses at where ongoing renovations on the Valley are nearing completion. The front nine holes are set to open by August, with the back nine following by late September, weather permitting.

The Dunluce Links are now finished, with progress on the practice area advancing well.

Our tour included local landmarks such as the stunning coastal route and the site of the eagerly anticipated Dunluce Lodge opening. In the evening, we enjoyed sampling the vibrant Portrush nightlife, from the iconic adorned with golf memorabilia, to the breathtaking views at overlooking Donegal, and the charming restaurants in the harbour district—a must for every golf enthusiast visiting the area.

A truly packed day that highlighted the best of golf hospitality and Portrush's unique charm.

Supporting Young Talent & A Glimpse of a New Links Course in Ireland

It was a pleasure to host these wonderful guests at Royal Portrush Golf Club on Friday:

Sean Meenan , North West Golf Club
Brian McElinney, Head Professional at North West Golf Club (and former R&A Amateur Champion in 2005)
Noah Kent, a rising young American talent competing in the British Amateur Championship at Ballyliffin Golf Club (starting today!)
Dana Fry , world renowned golf course architect from Fry/Straka, behind the highly anticipated Curracloe Links project in Co. Wexford

Noah is teeing off today in the prestigious British Amateur Championship at Ballyliffin Golf Club (only 75 minutes drive from Portrush). Organized by The R&A, this event showcases the finest amateur golfers globally.

At just 19, Noah's talent is undeniable. Having Brian McElinney, a 2005 R&A Amateur Champion and veteran of major tournaments like the U.S. Masters and British Open, on his bag speaks volumes about his potential.

A Glimpse of Curracloe Links

During our round Dana provided fascinating insights into the upcoming gem of Irish golf: Curracloe Links. Nestled in County Wexford with the backdrop of Curracloe Beach (famous for its soft sands and "Saving Private Ryan" filming location!), this course is slated to open in 2026.

Curracloe Links aims to redefine golfing experiences in Ireland's Ancient East. Blending breathtaking natural beauty with world-class infrastructure, it promises to be a masterpiece under the celebrated design of Dana Fry.

A Hole in One for Northern Ireland at IAGTO

An incredible 3 days at the IAGTO European Convention in Spain connecting with over 900 fellow golf industry professionals.

The convention started off with a golf day alongside tour operators from Sweden, Tenerife, and England. ️‍

But the real highlight came at the Opening Ceremony, where Northern Ireland was crowned the Western European Golf Destination of the Year 2024!

This is a fantastic achievement for the entire Irish golf industry - from the stunning courses and welcoming accommodations to the rich cultural experiences and exceptional service.
Congratulations to all the winners.

The convention was packed with productive meetings and connections. We exchanged business cards with over 80 association members, including golf clubs, hotels, and tour operators from all corners of the globe - including China, South Korea, Australia, the USA.

Of course, some of the most valuable networking happened at the evening events. It was a fantastic opportunity to build relationships and create new partnerships within the industry.

We had the privilege of engaging in three enriching tourism events this month.

First, the 'Meet the Buyer' event, orchestrated by Tourism Northern Ireland in Belfast, connected us with over 150 tourist experiences by innovative entrepreneurs and hotels catering to both local and international tourists.

Highlighting this week was the hosted by Tourism Northern Ireland at the iconic Titanic Belfast. The conference underscored the immense potential of tourism in bolstering our economy and communities. Hearing insights from Minister Conor Murphy, Tourism Ireland CEO Alice Mansergh, and Tourism NI CEO John McGrillen about People, Place and Partnerships. Tourism Ireland said their role is to promote Northern Ireland on a global scale. Received a fabulous tour of the new Titanic Distillers and of course enjoyed sampling the whiskey!

Also a heartfelt thank you to Fáilte Ireland for the invitation to the Donegal Tourism Industry Networking Event at the picturesque Harvey's Point ® near Donegal Town. Connecting with over a hundred tourism businesses from Donegal provided us with invaluable insights into unique offerings and immersive experiences.

Last month we were delighted to participate in Portstewart Golf Club ‘s Tour Operators’ Day which is nestled along the stunning North Coast of Ireland.

It was an honour to tee off alongside Club President Sheelagh Duffy, Irene Murray Caddie Master/Head of Outdoor Services and Helen Jones, Selector/Manager of the Irish Women’s golf team.

Special thanks to David MacLaren General Manager, Jeanie Murray Operations Manager for their invitation and gracious hospitality and insights into the exciting changes on the championship Strand course. With holes 13, 14, and 15 undergoing transformation by European Golf Design, Portstewart's reputation as a World Top 100 course is poised to reach new heights. The fun with my playing partners, the breathtaking sea views and playing the new holes made for an unforgettable day.

Wrapping up with fine dining at the club’s award-winning Restaurant 1894, with exceptional sea views over the Stand Beach to the shores of Donegal and out to the historic Mussenden Temple from the first floor of the clubhouse was the perfect finale to an exceptional day.

Last month marked the anniversary of my first hole-in-one…..after playing golf for more than 40 years! The odds are estimated at around 12,500 to 1 for the average golfer.

I can still vividly recall the rush of excitement from that moment at my home club, Royal Portrush Golf Club, on Stoke Medal Day, battling high winds and rain. Today, as we enjoy sunshine and gentle breezes the contrast couldn’t be more striking.

It’s a reminder of the unpredictable nature of Irish weather, a topic of great interest before and during our golf trips. You just don’t know in Ireland what the weather will throw at you, though traditionally, the best weather falls between May and September. Thankfully, it doesn’t rain in the pubs!

The works on and beside the course are apparent. The progress on the course works and driving range at Royal Portrush for the upcoming Open Championship is truly impressive. Additionally, the construction of the first 5-star hotel, Dunluce Lodge, on the North Coast is well underway. Visible through the trees along the 4th fairway, it promises to be an elegant, luxurious and stylish addition to the accommodation offerings in the region.

Winter golf at spectacular Castlerock Golf Club Northern Ireland.

This week, I had the opportunity to play golf at Castlerock Golf Club basking in the winter sun while enjoying the picturesque views of the course. The combination of the crisp winter air and the warm sunlight made for a truly delightful golfing experience.

There are approximately 216 “real links” golf courses in the world and Ireland has around 90 of them including Castlerock.

The interclub competition and shared passion for the game made the day even more enjoyable.

A huge shoutout to Castlerock Golf Club for maintaining the course so impeccably, allowing golfers like me to indulge in our favorite sport even during the winter season. If you haven’t had the chance to experience golfing here, I highly recommend it.

Here’s to more sunny days, challenging putts, and memorable moments on the golf course!

Thrilled to have attended the Golf Ireland conference in association with
IAGTO International Association of Golf Tour Operators, held at the Ebrington, a stunning new 5-star hotel in L’Derry. As a buyer, along with international tour operators, we had the opportunity to connect with numerous suppliers from hotels, golf courses, and transport providers from across Ireland.

The conference culminated in a delicious 6-course dinner, made from locally sourced produce, featuring enlightening discussions from representatives from Tourism Ireland, R&A and Royal Portrush, host to the 2025 Open Championship. 🌟

🔥Continuing the month’s industry excellence, also attended the IGTOA (Irish Golf Tour Operators Association) conference, golf and gala dinner at the newly refurbished Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle. Had a great time playing at Royal County Down, ranked world no. 1 golf course 💯 and host to the 2024 Irish Open. The round of golf was superb, shared with Paul Heery, Pete Snodden and Aaron Byrne

The evening continued with the 2023 Golf Awards and Gala Dinner, where outstanding providers, including some of Excelerator Luxury Golf Tour’s industry partners, were recognised for their contribution and service to the industry. Congratulations to all the award recipients! 🏆🎉
