Edge Effect

Here’s an example of edge effect. The high current density of the tips and edges due to a lot of surrounding electrolyte causes lots of growth - sometimes it’s cool, sometimes unwanted.

If you want to avoid this, you can use a robber wire. A robber wire is just a piece of copper wire that surrounds the items that robs some of the copper, reducing the current density on the tips.

Patina 🎨
Feeling the need to make everything look this cool now!

Just used our patina at a really low concentration and at room temp. I slowly lifted it out of the solution to make it darker at the bottom and lighter at the top!

With all the poppies out and about it won’t be long before we can all make some cool stuff with the seed heads!

Just make sure you seal them really really well! Smush loads of sealer in the holes or else this can happen - bleed out!

Reminiscing about our first times silver electroforming. This is after our first few attempts - the current is still a little high but we don’t mind. The texture is so satisfying and remains a firm favourite years later.

⏪ Throwback to the first piece we ever silver electroformed - looks pretty cool though right?

We had the solution, had the settings, had the temp, had the brightener, had the agitation but still it didn’t workout right. Then we realised the amps were way out 🤦‍♂️

Electroformed rose 🌹

Made for a friend, who wanted to keep her valentines rose! It was a fun project to take us out of kit production mode.

It was copper electroformed first, then silver plated, and finished with our patina

We are also working hard on creating a unique barrier plating solution to stop the bleed through of copper on gold and silver without the use of nickel! Let us know if this is something you would be interested in 💍

A little insight into why rinsing is really important! With this little Lego guy, we didn’t wash off the acid very well. You can see that this has stained the final effect and really stopped the shiny magic coming through 😭.

Trying a new method of electroforming rings.
No conductive paint or wires were used in the process. This will be one of the techniques that we will cover on our workshops.

Looking back at some of the photos on my phone and spotted this beauty! Even we do some silly stuff sometimes 🤦‍♂️ has this ever happened to you?

I completely forgot about this for a good month or so and this is what happened! Copper sulphate crystals everywhere 🔷
•
Good job that this is easy to fix and clean. If this happens to you, all you need to do is (with gloves on) put the crystals back in the tank, add some hot distilled water, keep warm and agitated and boom! it will all dissolve and make a nice solution again. Just need to add some brighteners and remove the corroded connections and anodes and it’s ready to go!

Here they are!
I was going to hold of posting this pic until tomorrow, but the reaction to the silver announcement has been unreal! So here they are, my first silver pieces - raw ruby, sapphire and emerald rings ✨

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I still have a lot to learn, but I’m so so happy with how these silver plated pieces have come out 💞

All the silver pieces I make are (and will be) copper core - ie, I still make the base piece in electroformed copper (as all my other work is) then apply a thick solid silver layer over the top.

All of these rings are available too, so message me for more info or custom orders! 💘
