ations, we aspire to a world of solidarity and inclusion, enriched by our differences, where everyone can live in dignity. Our History
In 1982, 160,000 Cambodians fled the Khmer Rouge regime to seek safety in the refugee camps of Thailand. Hidden amongst the crowds, more than 6,000 amputees struggled to survive, many of them victims of anti-personnel landmines. Outraged by the situation, two young doctors decided to produce artificial limbs using the only materials available – bamboo and a few strips of leather. Humanity & Inclusion was created, and with it the start of an ongoing fight against the injustice faced by the world’s most vulnerable people. Over time, our organisation has expanded into a global network supporting disabled and vulnerable people in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work tirelessly to help meet their basic needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. But even today, so much more remains to be done. Around the world, explosive weapons are still claiming lives and limbs. And people with disabilities are still being excluded and forgotten. Join HI and make a difference. Our Impact
Thanks to individual supporters just like you, Humanity & Inclusion supports disabled and vulnerable people in around 60 countries affected by conflict, disaster and poverty. As well as our amazing donors, we also rely on the dedication of our 3,278 staff around the world, including 2,522 local staff supporting our programmes on the ground. Since HI was founded in 1982, our work has benefitted millions of people worldwide. Our Awards
Nobel Peace Prize
HI was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines which led to the signing of the Mine Ban Treaty. Today, we continue the fight against landmines and other explosive weapons which indiscriminately kill and injure civilians. Hilton Humanitarian Prize
HI was awarded the 2011 Hilton Humanitarian Prize in recognition of almost 30 years of humanitarian action. Visit our website to find out more

❗ HI strongly condemns the destruction by the Israeli army of our warehouse in Rafah and all the humanitarian equipment it contained.

Nearly 200 pallets of humanitarian equipment (medical supplies, mattresses, jerrycans, etc.) were stored in this building managed by HI's Atlas Logistique unit.

Even though we took every precaution, reporting the location and its vital humanitarian function to the Israeli authorities, the whole structure has been bulldozed.

HI is outraged by this deliberate destruction, which represents yet another obstacle to the supply of humanitarian aid that is so desperately-needed by the people of Gaza.

HI is extremely concerned that attacks against humanitarian facilities and operations are becoming a pattern despite proper notification to the Israeli authorities.

Today is International Albinism Awareness Day. Swipe to see how HI has supported Angelo in Madagascar and Balkissa and two of her children in Niger. 💙

Many people with albinism continue to face stigmatization and discrimination.

Angelo received support through the HELASIA project, Health, Education and Livelihoods in Africa, a Sustainable Inclusion Approach, funded by Norad and implemented by HI from 2020 to June 2023. The project trained 1,664 teachers in inclusive education practices and provided tailored assistance to children in 74 schools.

Balkissa and two of her children, Mawiya and Safaraou in Niger, faced stigmitization in the community, some people even refused to let them drink water in their homes. As well as the information and supplies that HI provided her with, Balkissa also receives financial assistance to go to a listening and play centre, where her children can have fun and she can talk to people and receive advice.

Lets continue to raise awareness, support those in need, and work every day for a more inclusive world, .💙

Meet Gina from 👋

Gina is 4 years old and has knock-knees which is painful and makes walking difficult. Her condition was worsening until she was able to have an operation.

She was then referred to HI for sessions with a physiotherapist and she received a 3D-printed orthoses, funded by the US Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (BPRM).

To make sure her walking is improving, HI still visit her once a month for follow up sessions which help her use her and strengthen her limbs.

Gina has now been able to start school and can play happily with her friends. 💙

Humanity & Inclusion is deeply saddened and outraged by the killing of our colleague, Muna, and her entire family after Israeli forces indiscriminately bombed her house in southern Deir Al-Balah, on June, 8th.

Muna, a dedicated social worker, assisted hundreds of displaced families and children, including children with disabilities. This tragic incident marks the second loss of an HI staff member since October 7, following a previous incident in December 2023 where another colleague and her four children were killed in Nuseirat in Gaza.

Humanitarian personnel are on the front lines, risking their lives daily to provide essential assistance to those in dire need. Their safety and ability to carry out their work unimpeded are paramount to the humanitarian mission.

Humanitarian organisations and their personnel must have the right to conduct their work safely to help the lives of thousands of people. Safe access to humanitarian aid must be prioritised immediately.

HI continues to call for an immediate permanent ceasefire. Every minute without a ceasefire prolongs the unnecessary suffering of the people in Gaza reinforcing the urgent need to end the trauma of war.

Meet Edwige, a 20 year-old student with vision loss from ! 👋

Edwige started at the age of four, but she struggled as she couldn't see the blackboard clearly. Despite these obstacles, she did not give up, and with HI's support, she was able to learn Braille. She is now studying at University! 🏫📚

“School has enabled me to affirm myself. I’ve learned to read, write, speak in public and take part in debates”, Edwige celebrates.

An inclusive learning environment is crucial to fight the prejudices surrounding the of children with disabilities. That is why we’re running awareness-raising sessions in schools while training teachers to better support their with disabilities in their studies 🧑‍🎓

Shaha, 9, lives in . When she was three years old, she lost part of her family and was injured by an while fleeing her village. Shaha had severe burns on her hand and shoulder, along with jaw and eye injuries caused by shrapnel.
The little girl has already undergone five jaw and three eye surgeries. She now has prosthetic eye lenses and wears glasses. She had difficulty in moving her right hand, but thanks to she is now able to move her hand and fingers. As Shaha gets older, she will need additional physiotherapy sessions to maintain good mobility in her hand.

We know that conflicts cause surges in injuries and critical illnesses, thus increasing rehabilitation needs. In particular, explosive ordnance and weapons of all types remain a significant threat and continue to cause indiscriminate harm not only during attacks but also for many years after their use.

Strengthening services is essential in all contexts, even more so in conflict-affected ones, with a view to responding to the rehabilitation needs of people with both pre-existing and newly-acquired disabilities, including victims of explosive weapons and ordnance.

🔴 On 26th May, Israeli forces bombed a tent camp in 's so-called “safe zone”, killing more than 50 displaced Palestinians, including 34 children. The disregard for the humanitarian principle of distinction and the protection of civilians is completely unacceptable.

Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by this shocking attack. We can't stand by and watch while tragedies like this keep happening

With 22 other NGOs, we urgently call on all permanent and elected members of the UN Security Council to enforce the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) orders regarding Israel's actions in Rafah, . Immediate action is required to uphold international law and ensure the Government of Israel meets its obligations as mandated by the ICJ.

Failure to do so would further compromise the conditions to sustain human life in Gaza and would undermine global trust in the primacy of international law.

Meet Flore from !👋

Flore, 22, is a mother of a 2-year-old boy and has been working as a driver's assistant for HI for 3 years.

Flore left secondary school after 3 years to start supporting her family and joined HI's Atlas Logistics Project. Her job consists of supervising the loading and unloading of supplies onto lorries, accompanying drivers to their destination, and ensuring nothing goes astray. 🚚

“I liked it straight away, because the supplies we are transporting help vulnerable people" explains Flore.

After giving birth, she wondered how she would work with a baby at home. HI then arranged her schedule, so she travelled shorter distances and wasn’t away from her son for more than a day.

Flore believes "You shouldn't be afraid to look into in these professions, to take the plunge, and you shouldn't limit yourself”. 💙

In the future, she would like to explore other horizons and maybe develop her passion for decorating.

🔴 We are appalled by the alarming escalation of violence in the .

Since October 7, cities and towns across the West Bank have faced access restrictions, daily military operations, waves of arrests, punitive demolitions, and increased settler violence, leading to the displacement of civilians and a rise in deaths and injuries.

Palestinians are experiencing an alarming escalation of violence, leading to new injuries, long-term impairments, disabilities, and mental health challenges stemming from adverse or traumatic experiences.

Violent acts against civilians and civilian premises must stop, and all movement barriers across the West Bank must be lifted. The safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure must be prioritised.

Today, we are excited to share that we have officially received £400,000 in support raised by players of People's Postcode Lottery. Over the years, players’ support has grown and allowed us to ensure no one is left behind because of their disability.

We are proud to be part of the players of People's Postcode Lottery commitment to support a more inclusive society. This enables us to respond to emergencies with essential items, physiotherapy, and psychological support for the injured and traumatised; clear land of unexploded weapons; and ensure disabled children can go to school.

Internally displaced people find themselves trapped amid heavy artillery fighting, resulting in an alarming increase in the risks to their safety and their lives.

This critical situation is also impacting the safety of humanitarian workers in camps and their ability to deliver essential support to affected populations.

Thanks to HI's demining operations, people from Bissine in have been able to return to the land of their ancestors.

On 9 October 1992, the village of Bissine was hit by a wave of violence, with bombings, fires and the killing of villagers. The villagers, forced to leave their land in a hurry, left behind their lives and their dreams. Yet the people of Bissine always hope in their heart that they would be able to come back one day. 🙌

30 years later, thanks to HI's action, the land is once again safe. Families have finally been able to return to their village and rebuild their lives.

Every plot of land cleared of mines by HI is an opportunity for these families to believe in a promising future, where peace and prosperity can flourish on the fertile lands of Bissine. 🌾

Despite repeated calls on Israel from heads of state, UN officials and humanitarian NGOs to refrain from expanding its ground offensive to , Israeli troops entered the governorate on May 7.

Over 1.5 million people, including 600,000 children, are at serious risk; more than 450,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah since Israel first issued unlawful “evacuation orders” there on May 6. While the Israeli army has already taken control of urban areas inside Rafah, the issuance of new “evacuation orders” on May 11 is setting the stage for further advancement of the military invasion, which will lead to the total collapse of lifesaving services.

The Israeli military offensive has interrupted the access of aid to through Rafah and Kerem Shalom / Karm Abu Salem crossings.
Third States have the responsibility to urgently act in bringing to an end, and pursue accountability for, the Grave Breaches of IHL taking place in Gaza.
