Flamenco Festival Gaucín 2019.
Francisco Prieto Martín organises a wonderful free flamenco festival in Gaucín on the last weekend in July, sadly not happening this year. Looking forward to next year's event already. Here is a snippet from 2019.
The Moorish Garden at Casa Mosaica
We started making this garden in 2005 from a plain tarmac surface after visiting several beautiful Moorish gardens to help get ideas. The Generalife & Alhambra in Granada, and the Alcazars in Cordoba and Seville gave us plenty to think about the way the Moors used water in the garden. We were running the "Real Mosaic" studio in Tangier at that time and I had such pleasure and fun designing mosaics especially for the space. To begin with I wanted ALL the plants to be scented but how could you not have Bougainvillea or "Lily of the Nile" (Agapanthus). Of course it has changed over the years, but none of it would have been possible without my wonderful gardener Raffael Rodrigues Segura, the Arbolista team and most important the architect Jose Manuel Corujo Vergara who designed the layout of the space.

These huge blue bees seem to love the wisteria at Casa Mosaica.

The Procession of Santo Niño, Gaucín. 8/09/19
A lovely reminder from 2019......In Gaucín the feast in honour of Santo Niño and St. Juan de Diós begins with the Romería a la Adelfilla on the last weekend of August: A procession from The Church of San Sebastian down the Camino de Gibraltar to the Chapel of the Apparition where the Holy Child appeared in 1536 to Juan Ciudad (Later canonised as San Juan de Diós). The following weekend 7th & 8th September 2019) the effigies of both saints, carried on the shoulders of devotees process through the village accompanied by the band “Villa de Gaucin”. The last procession starting on Sunday afternoon is a solemn procession through the village, where I made this video.
Extraordinary weather here in Gaucin, very warm all morning then suddenly this.....huge hail stones!
