That’s a wrap… Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna staying at the Nemzeti Hotel, AMA river cruise, Riverside Mozart river cruise, Scenic Opal river cruise and the AM Konzerthaus hotel - 175,000 steps and I’m ready for my own bed and to get back to my desk and share all the knowledge that I’ve learnt in these amazing destinations and on these outstanding river cruise lines…for now it’s home to the family for a relaxing weekend at home. FitFlop these boots are amazing and I would have struggled without them - highly recommended!
Day 8 in Vienna…This is the day I am ‘Home Alone’ in Vienna as I booked two nights to explore this beautiful city and everyone I have been travelling with over the last few days flew back to London today.I was curious to see how safe I felt as a solo traveller walking around the city, taking lunch and dinner out alone - and it’s been a wonderful day, a great experience and I felt safe Starting with a morning at the desk in my hotel room to catch up on some quotes and emails, mainly to escape the rain - the first rain I have seen while being away across all three cities! Great WiFi’s and great coffee! The rain cleared and by midday, I took a walk back into the city - I had googled a few restaurants and followed my google maps to get there - as you see my coffee came in a bowl, followed by my soup in a bowl… a lovely dining square just to the side of the main shopping street and sandwiched between the St Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna and the Spanish Riding School. After lunch I went back to the Vienna State Opera to get some photographs from the front of the building and then headed to the Lindt shop to buy some gifts for home! The weather was much cooler today so I’m glad that I have been carrying my ‘big coat’ around with me for over a week! Late afternoon, carefully dodging the many cycle lanes I took myself back to the MGallery Vienna - Hotel am Konzerthaus to start packing for my flight home tomorrow…What an adventure! If you have any questions on Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna or River cruising please just ask…Dona x
Day 7 in Vienna… we sailed into Vienna overnight and after a beautiful breakfast we disembarked Scenic Opal and ordered an Uber into the City - only just over 3.5 miles and a half hour journey. We soon found our bearings and with the help of a guide book and map we made our way around. Visiting the stunning St Stephens Catherdral, the Spanish Riding School, the Rathaus, St Charles’ Church, Belvedere Palace and The Hofburg. 21,000 steps later we stopped off at the Sacher hotel for a coffee and famous Sacher Torte and then headed off and checked into our hotel - the AM Konzerthaus before heading to the Vienna State Opera - a must when in Vienna (and if you queue from 10am at the Opera House like we did you can get a standing ticket from as little as 15 Euros)… a fantastic day in a beautiful city!
Day 6 in Bratislava…After an overnight on Scenic Opal river cruise, we sailed into Slovakia as we ate our breakfast and prepared for a guided walking tour of the city. The tour is provided as one of the inclusive excursions when in a river cruise and we literally sailed straight into the mouth of the city.Bratislava isn’t one of the most talked about capital cities in Europe, but is a fabulous place and relatively cheap for a city. It’s prettier than I imagined and far less crowded than most other European capitals, I really enjoyed my day here. You could visit as a day trip and it’s easily accessible from Vienna, Budapest,Krakow and Prague. Perfect for acting centre or a day trip from any of these places!Another 15,000 steps took us around the city before we escaped to the most beautiful cafe Konditorer i Norge🍰 Кондитеры Норвегии!The weather held out and we took advantage of the rooftop pool on our river cruise ship before dinner in the ships Italian restaurant - another fantastic day falling in love with another city!Next stop - Vienna!Travel Counsellors - Lytham - Dona Kirkham 01253 804610Dona x
Day 5 in Budapest…A slower morning but still over 15,000 steps! My last morning in Budapest, fuelled by a fabulous breakfast on Riviera William Wordsworth before heading into Budapest for a coffee and the famous Chimney cake (delicious…)! I am so glad that I only opted for a half as it was so filling…After a final wander around Budapest we boarded our river cruise that will take us to Vienna, via Bratislava with two nights on board…Scenic is my hotel for the next two nights and i cannot wait to experience the 5* river ship and take the opportunity to see Bratislava in Slovakia and learn more about this country…
Day 4 in Budapest…The day started onboard the Amasonata river cruise where we had stayed overnight and had a stunning dinner the night before. After a morning meeting River Cruise suppliers at the Trade Fair we were taken onboard 4 other River Cruise ships to explore the cabins, suites & facilities…• Scenic• Viva• AMA• Riviera All ships offer different routes and different experiences! We also met with the trade team for:• Uniworld• APT• TauckAn afternoon spent onboard Riviera William Wordsworth before checking in for the evening and spending the night onboard. But as many steps today but so much learning….!
