'Twas ever thus that in the dying days of May in 1851 one Saturday evening that the local undertaker from the notorious area of Bedern in the City of YORK was summoned to the nearby hospital.

Charged with making ready his neighbour for burial - the gentleman in question was far from perturbed at the arduous task of making respectable in death the mortal remains of this remarkable lady.

Notwithstanding that she had once outrageously dared to live THE most unrespectable life possible!

One balmy August evening shortly before midnight in the notorious Hungate area of YORK - an infant is gently woken from sleep in his sparse crib by his devoted young mother.

And when safely wrapped within a long red scarf and nestled once more within his mother's familiar loving arms - the infant is taken from his home in Bradley's Buildings to begin the final journey.
