'We had a lovely few days at Smithywood. The accommodation is well laid out and beautifully furnished, there is everything you need to make you feel at home and cook basic dishes. We enjoyed using the coffee press to make proper coffees :) The lodge is immaculate, everything was very clean and tidy and towels are provided for mucky dogs :) There is a great glen just a few minutes walk from the lodge for the dogs and lots of other great walks and beaches just a short drive away. We had a red squirrel and several birds come and eat from the feeders just outside the kitchen window which was lovely. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.'

A nice morning run out from Moniack to the historic Lovat Bridge, near Beauly, along the much welcomed, newly opened extension to the cycle and foot path, making it now a safer route for walkers, runners and riders to reach Beauly village, where you can pick up groceries and gifts as well as visiting the Beauly Priory and our lovely local eateries for a snack. Lovat Bridge was built 1811-14 by engineer Thomas Telford and crosses the River Beauly, around 3 miles from Moniack. Beauly is a further mile on.

A day trip out west to the coast beyond Torridon - such a beautiful day and a fantastic spot for a wee picnic at the end of the road at Lower Diabeag. If you’re not a fan of single track roads, hills and hairpin bends, then this may not be the trip for you.

It’s World Peatland Day - this is Forsinard Flows, in Sutherland, part of a vast expanse of blanket bog, sheltered straths and mountains known as the Flow Country; one of Scotland's most important natural treasures. Blanket bogs alone store more than three times the amount of carbon found in all of Britain’s woodlands. They are also areas of international importance for biodiversity and play a key role in water regulation and water quality, and pollen preserved within the peat acts as an important record of past environments. See RSPB Forsinard Flows webpage for more information about what you can see there, the trails and visitor centre opening times. If you fancy a day trip without the car, the train can take you straight there!
