Are you waiting for a 'late deal' on a holiday this summer? Here's why that isn't always a good idea!
Years ago I worked for a large tour ski operator. They contracted chalets for the whole season, chartered planes, hired coaches and reps. They had all these costs whether or not they had guests - including staff costs. And yes they sometimes sold off good holidays at cheap prices to fill chalets with an odd room left. (They also sold off space in unpopular chalets and budget hotels miles from the ski lifts to use up spare plane seats - the bane of my life working Quality Control 🙄).
Step forward in time to today's travellers using 'low cost' airlines and booking accommodation independently.... Accommodation owners have some fixed costs and some (such as cleaning, laundry, electricity etc) that vary according to whether the property is occupied or not.
'Low cost' airlines don't make their money out of discounting last minute. During 7 years of keeping an eye on flight prices into Preveza I've consistently seen prices RISE as they get nearer the time. They know someone will pay that extra for those last 4 seats on a busy August flight.
So my advice - think ahead. Easyjet have some great prices for July and August at the moment, and with our new flexible arrival / departure days you can take advantage of those midweek bargains!
