Well it has been a while since our last update, but we’re delighted to inform you that we’ve now submitted a Reserved Matters planning application for Moneystone Park, near Whiston in Staffordshire. This is an important step towards making this exciting leisure project a reality. Thanks for your continuing interest in the project. More updates to follow!

We are pleased to announce that Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s Planning Committee resolved to grant outline planning permission for Moneystone Park. The development will bring with it significant economic benefit, with major job creation and increased visitor spending of around £1 million per annum in the local area.

We will now work with planning officers to work through the planning conditions and bring forward a Reserved Matters planning application. With the certainty of a planning consent we can now work up a timetable for the delivery of the Park and the related completion of the final phases of the restoration scheme.

We would like to thank everyone who supported the proposals and we will keep you updated as we progress.

Staffordshire Moorlands Council’s Planning Committee will decide on the Moneystone Park application at a meeting on Thursday 15th September at 2pm. The meeting will be held at the Council Chamber, Moorlands House, Leek. The meeting is open the public and we would encourage you to attend to support the application if you are available.

We’re pleased that the planning officer’s report recommends that the application be approved. However, it is the planning committee members that make the final decision.

It is not too late to show councillors that you support Moneystone Park. If you haven’t done so already, please send your comments ASAP to [email protected] quoting the reference number SMD/2106/0378. Thank you.

Moneystone Park would provide a significant boost for the local economy, creating jobs and generating over £1 million per year of additional spending. We aim for a target of 40% of goods and services on site to be provided via businesses based with Staffordshire Moorlands boundaries, or within 15 miles of the site.

Local people and young people in particular, are likely to benefit from the opportunities created at Moneystone Park. Laver Leisure has agreed with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, a jobs and training initiative to enable local people, including those with disabilities and the long-term unemployed, to benefit from the jobs and training opportunities here.

UPDATE: Laver Leisure has submitted a planning application for the proposed leisure development at Moneystone Quarry. This resubmitted planning application seeks to address the comments made by Members of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s Planning Committee when it refused the original planning application last year.

The changes include:

•The height of the proposed hub building has been reduced from 12 metres to 6 metres
•Additional landscaping is proposed within the hub area, which further screens the hub development from the listed building (Little Eaves Farm) and the surrounding footpaths
•The 14 lodges proposed at Black Plantation and the proposed vehicular access from Blakeley Lane have been removed as part of this application resubmission. The 14 lodges will be distributed elsewhere on the site and the total number of lodges remains at 250
•A “no right turn” vehicular access arrangement is proposed from the Moneystone Quarry site onto Eaves Lane. This will discourage vehicles from heading towards Carr Bank directly from the site.

A Laver Leisure spokesperson said:

“Laver Leisure can confirm that we have resubmitted a planning application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for Moneystone Park. We have taken account of the Planning Committee’s reasons for refusing the original planning application and have directly addressed the issues raised within the reasons for refusal.

“The proposals fully accord with the adopted Development Plan for the area, specifically the Council’s Core Strategy DPD and the Churnet Valley Masterplan SPD. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s own Economic Development team strongly supported the original planning application. They clearly see the potential benefits that Moneystone Park will deliver in the local area. We agree with them and believe that there are many other social and community benefits which will also be brought by this development.

“Our planning application fully addresses the key issues raised by the Planning Committee last November. It is now for the local authority to assess and decide upon this application.”

If planning approval is successfully achieved, Moneystone Park will deliver significant economic benefit to the local area. It will provide a significant boost to local tourism by providing further variety to the local offer, and in turn, create 250 new local jobs.
