The last place the FAM group visited was Glenross Living Kalutara. It was such a pleasure to take the group here so they could experience this special property, and this is the first FAM group who have stayed over. Everyone loved the villas which cantilever out from the hillside, overlooking rubber plantations, paddy fields, cinnamon and hills of lush jungle. The hotel has a wellness theme, and the team enjoyed a demonstration of local martial arts and of course checked out the spa as well.

Why House has been closed for the last couple of months for some refurbishments and is now open again, looking better than ever. The pool has been completely re-done and we can't wait to dive in!

We are open!

We closed for two months to do some major renovations to the swimming pool and other maintenance work around the property.
The pool is looking amazing and the team are excited and looking forward to our first set of arrivals this week.

The dining pavilion is open and day passes are available again to enjoy lunch and dinner.

Our Fam trip continued on down to the south coast where we checked out KK Beach before checking in to Kahanda Kanda - Boutique Hotel in Sri Lanka with its glorious pool, hilltop setting and fields of tea! The team then visited The Tanamera Estate, a private three-bedroom beachfront villa (managed by the wonderful Why House team) before staying at Thesunhouse Galle, touring Galle Fort and lunching at the Fort Bazaar.

We then moved up the west coast to The Villa Bentota by KK Collection which delivered an amazing Indian Ocean sunset! Eleanor also celebrated her birthday here and was surprised by National Guide Ajith with balloons and decorations on the bus!

FAM trip update! Our lovely group travelled into Sri Lanka's beautiful Tea Country to experience the scenic train journey, the picturesque mountain scenery, the tea estates and the charming hospitality of two iconic former tea manager's bungalows, Goatfell and Camellia Hills, both managed by the superb Teardrop Hotels team! Thank you to Henry, Manoj and each bungalow team for having us all to stay and looking after us so well. Everyone was blown away by the views!

It is that time of the year again when we welcome a super group of tour operator partners to Sri Lanka on an educational (but fun) FAM trip. Our agents hail from the UK and Germany, and are spending the next week visiting our hotels, experiencing activities first-hand, meeting some of the owners and key sales people and generally getting a real feel for this incredible country. Eleanor is travelling with them.

After meeting at Wallawwa, and enjoying a super first lunch in Sri Lanka (and a tour of this beautiful near-airport hotel) the group moved on to Santani, our fabulous wellness hotel in the hills near Kandy. The team acclimatised to life in Sri Lanka by walking to the Hanging Bridge in Werapitiya, dipping into the river for a wild swim, enjoying spa treatments and a 7-course tasting menu! Thank you to Vickum and the team for hosting us!

History and style go hand in hand at this timeless west coast escape in Bentota. The Villa Bentota by KK Collection was originally conceived by Sri Lanka's iconic architect, the late Geoffrey Bawa, and its series of intertwined buildings are the epitome of classic tropical modernist architecture. Today the property is managed by the KK Collection, and their blend of contemporary styling accented by pops of colour, great service and consistently good food and drink have really brought this exceptional boutique hotel to life. This is a wonderful place to while away your days beside a long golden beach, soak up the beauty of a tropical garden or even host a wedding or event.

We'd like to introduce you to our newest collection member. Welcome to The Sun House in Galle!

Some of you may already know this glorious boutique hotel in Galle, however it has recently undergone a thorough upgrade under new management (who also run the brilliant Gal Oya Lodge). The building dates back to the 1860s and is a valuable part of Galle's history, and so it is wonderful to see it back to its best. Great care was taken to modernise the inner workings of the property whilst retaining its nostalgic character, original features, and eclectic furniture, artwork and profusion of books (there are a LOT! One suite has its own library).

The hotel is home to seven very individually designed bedrooms, each with its own unique look and feel that captures the essence of Sri Lanka, and in particular Galle.

As part of the restoration of the house, more indoor dining space was created to allow space for both in-house guests and outside diners. The hotel has always been a destination for fine dining in Galle, and its in-house restaurant and bar, ‘The Gallean’, serves eclectic Asian fusion dishes and artfully concocted cocktails.

From here you can walk down the hill into the heart of Galle, and beyond to its famous test cricket ground and UNESCO-certified Galle Fort. The closest beach is a 10-minute drive away.

There are still some rooms available over the festive period and also during the Galle Literary Festival in 2024!

When in … our FAM group stayed at the gorgeous Why House and were looked after by Hen’s superb team. The setting is idyllic, the rooms so comfortable and the food/hospitality is always second to none! Thank you for having us all!

From Why, the team joined an Idle Bikes circuit to experience life on two wheels. They enjoyed a peddle inland around paddy fields and local villages. They also ventured into Galle Fort for a guided walk around this UNESCO World Heritage Site and afterwards, for superb a wonderful lunch at Fort Bazaar by Teardrop Hotels. Thank you to Henry, Manoj and the team.

The team also visited our newest member, the revamped The Sun House in Galle (more on this very soon). They were very impressed with the updates and sensitivity around the hotel’s upgrade. Tim was there to meet them all, and show them around. The Sun House is the newest sister hotel to Gal Oya Lodge.

It was lovely that Eleanor could join us for these visits too!

Our FAM trip travelled from the hills to the south coast. Their first stop was for an exceptional lunch at The Last House near Tangalle where they enjoyed a tour of this iconic Geoffrey Bawa-designed property by owner Tim Jacobson and a wander along its secluded sandy beach. Thank you to Tim and the team!

From there, they moved on to stay at KK Beach, a superb 10-bedroom boutique hotel along Habaraduwa’s long sandy beach. The team met KK Collection owner George Cooper who also took them on a tour of sister hotel, Kahanda Kanda - Boutique Hotel in Sri Lanka, a chic hilltop hotel with pool villas popular with honeymooners. Our FAM group loved spending time in Sri Lanka’s hill country. Thank you so much to Teardrop Hotels for their kind hospitality at Goatfell Bungalow and Nine Skies Bungalow where everyone stayed. These are two of three colonial tea bungalows-turned-hotels managed by Teardrop, and they are unique, small properties with a wealth of charm and character. Activities enjoyed by the group included a tea factory visit, local walks and an exhilarating train ride.

From our FAM trip moved onto the remote easterly region of for a stay at Gal Oya Lodge.

We always recommend stays of 2-3 nights at least to enjoy the rich variety of wildlife-, nature- and cultural-focussed itineraries, but our team had 24hours to get a feel for the lodge, it’s surroundings and experiences. This included a safari by boat atop Sri Lanka’s largest freshwater lake and a hike up to the top of Monkey Mountain for incredible 360-degree views. The team spotted a variety of wildlife including a small herd of elephants. Thank you so much Tim and the Gal Oya Lodge team. Everyone loved it!

From the ancient cities to Kandy’s famous Temple of the Tooth! Our group FAM moved on to Kandy for a stay at the incomparable The Kandy House. Whilst in town they visited the temple and enjoyed a tour of the Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya hosted by an expert botanist. Lastly, the team enjoyed a fabulous dinner at The Kandy House. Built in 1804 by the last Chief Minister of the Kandyan Kingdom this palatial home was converted into a boutique hotel some 200 years later, and is one is Sri Lanka’s most exquisite hotels.

We have just wrapped up the most amazing FAM trip around Sri Lanka. Our lovely group of tour operators from the UK and Europe have been led on a trip that has encompassed a tropical cocktail of hotel and villa inspections, presentations, sightseeing and local experiences. Over the coming week we will be sharing some images of the group visiting our hotels and experiencing beautiful Sri Lanka.

Their first stop was Water Garden Sigiriya, a stunning 30-villa boutique hotel near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya. Our group each lit the oil lamp upon arrival. In Sri Lanka, oil lamps are lit to mark special occasions and new events.

After a wonderful dinner and a good nights sleep, the group woke early to climb Sigiriya. The views from the top are amazing and this is an experience not to be missed.

We have a new member! We are delighted to share the news that we now represent Glenross Living Kalutara. Sister hotel to the beautiful Water Garden Sigiriya, Glenross is a luxurious boutique hotel located on the side of a lush valley amidst a 98-acre rubber, tea and cinnamon estate. Centred around a refurbished 19th century former tea plantation house (which is home to three very large suites, a restaurant and a bar), the hotel also has seven very impressive freestanding duplex villas with private pools.
