After a week's extension, the first WCSA Festival of the year has drawn to a close. With a shocking 18 days cancelled for poor weather and only 5 days fished, it was always going to be wide open and a great chance of winning the £1000 first prize.

We were very kindly sponsored by local business's (both located on Church Street in Whitby) Billy Wilson's and The Middle Earth Tavern. As well as providing the the potatoes and chips for the majority of the Fish & Chip Shops in Whitby; Billy Wilson's also stocks Squid @£4.50 per box along with loads of drinks and snacks and are open from 6am daily. The Middle Earth Tavern keep a great selection of beers, lagers, wines and spirits, along with splendid overnight hospitality in their B&B accommodation.

Spring has traditionally been a time where the bigger fish are few and far between. However, this year the first and second places both eclipsed the last couple of years Spring Festival Winners, which was great to see.

First overall was Andrew Gregson from Preston with a belting 14lb 13oz Cod fishing aboard Mistress Sea Angling Charters which wins the £1000 top prize.

Second Place went to Darryl Machant with a 12lb 8oz Ling caught fishing aboard Shy Torque III and he wins a two night stay at the Middle Earth Tavern.

The Skippers of the WCSA would like thank everyone who supported the Festival and we look forward to seeing you again for the Summer Festival which commences on the 29th June until the 21st July.

The last weekend of the WCSA Spring Festival commenced today. We have five of the association boats out.

Not quite big enough to take the outright lead in the competition, but today’s daily £50 prize was won by Daryll Machant from Mansfield, with a 12lb 8oz Ling caught fishing aboard Shy Torque.

Last day tomorrow……great looking weather conditions. It’s all still to play for.

After a really poor start with bad weather, the WCSA Spring Festival has finally had a weather break. We had five of the association boats out today on a small neap tide.

Wrecking was the order of the day and Andrew Gregson managed to catch a cracking 14lb 13oz Cod fishing aboard Mistress, which took both the daily prize and the overall lead in the Festival.

With a few days to go and some settled weather over the weekend, give any of the Skippers a call to book your place and win the £1000 first prize.

After missing the first nine days of the WCSA Festival, we finally got a day out today.

The heaviest fish landed today (winning the £50 daily prize), was a Ling of 6lb 8 1/2oz by Richard Norris from Staley Bridge, fishing aboard Jean-K.

Well done Richard. 👏

Due to such a chronic start in this years Spring competition here at Whitby, the WCSA has taken the vote to extend it for another week to give everyone a sporting chance.
This will mean the competition will now run till Sunday May 5th.

Today’s anglers (22.04.24) who are the first to have a go since it started on Saturday 13th April have been informed.

The Skippers are looking forward to having a run out for anyone who fancies re-booking the day you lost last week due to bad weather.

Next weeks tides also fall in the more favourable neap (small). Thanks for your continued support.
