After a week's extension, the first WCSA Festival of the year has drawn to a close. With a shocking 18 days cancelled for poor weather and only 5 days fished, it was always going to be wide open and a great chance of winning the £1000 first prize.
We were very kindly sponsored by local business's (both located on Church Street in Whitby) Billy Wilson's and The Middle Earth Tavern. As well as providing the the potatoes and chips for the majority of the Fish & Chip Shops in Whitby; Billy Wilson's also stocks Squid @£4.50 per box along with loads of drinks and snacks and are open from 6am daily. The Middle Earth Tavern keep a great selection of beers, lagers, wines and spirits, along with splendid overnight hospitality in their B&B accommodation.
Spring has traditionally been a time where the bigger fish are few and far between. However, this year the first and second places both eclipsed the last couple of years Spring Festival Winners, which was great to see.
First overall was Andrew Gregson from Preston with a belting 14lb 13oz Cod fishing aboard Mistress Sea Angling Charters which wins the £1000 top prize.
Second Place went to Darryl Machant with a 12lb 8oz Ling caught fishing aboard Shy Torque III and he wins a two night stay at the Middle Earth Tavern.
The Skippers of the WCSA would like thank everyone who supported the Festival and we look forward to seeing you again for the Summer Festival which commences on the 29th June until the 21st July.
