What more could be mentioned about The Royal Hotel Ventnor that has not already been said.

Have just had a truly amazing luncheon in the Al Fresco Geranium Garden. Such a beautiful setting and a great vibe going on.

The food is second to none. I would thoroughly recommend all the dishes. To start with, I tucked into the signature dish of The Royal that was the Gallybagger Cheese Soufflé and for main it was the Cod with asparagus, the way it is cooked and presented is an absolute delight.

Columbo was slightly annoyed as he did not get a look in, but he enjoyed lounging in the sun and mixing with the other diners.

Ever fancied popping to the Isle of Wight and staying in this tremendous hotel where service and quality speak volumes? Well you can and by being collected from your home for a wonderful escorted tour of the Island with the comforts of The Royal Hotel along with excursions included.
Limited availability for the 5 day escorted trip departing 26 September this year, with 2023 dates to be announced.
Please note, this escorted tour is not arranged by The Royal Hotel.

GREECE EASES RULES ON MASKS IN INDOOR PUBLIC SPACES.

Greece has announced it will roll back its mask mandate from today 1st June.

The popular holiday destination has cancelled its indoor mask-wearing mandate, so travellers will no longer be required to wear face coverings in taxis, indoor public spaces and on flights.

However, travellers to Greece will still need to wear a mask on public ground transport. “Mandatory mask-wearing remains in hospitals, nursing homes and urban transport like buses, metro and tram,” said Greece’s Health Minister Thanos Plevris.

In all other spaces, such as restaurants, hotels, entertainment venues and shopping centres, there is no legal requirement to wear a mask.

The move comes following the EU’s decision to abolish mandatory face coverings in airports and on European flights from 16 May, though some airlines have retained the advice.

The Foreign Office has updated its advice to advise of the change. "From 1 June, it is only mandatory to wear a mask on public transport and in hospitals and care facilities for the elderly. In all other spaces there is no legal requirement to wear a mask," said the FCDO.

Three more countries scrap COVID entry rules.

Austria, Israel and Vietnam have become the latest countries to announce an end to COVID-19 entry restrictions as Spain continues to ban adults who haven’t been vaccinated.

Passengers arriving in Austria no longer need to prove they are vaccinated or recently recovered, and they no longer need to take a negative COVID test.

Vietnam has also dropped the requirement for a negative COVID test. However, travellers to Vietnam must wear a mask and follow handwashing and other COVID-19 requirements, said the Foreign Office.

It also warned that airlines and transit points may stipulate additional requirements for travel to Vietnam.

Israel will drop all COVID-19 related entry restrictions from this Saturday. Arrivals will no longer need to prove they’re vaccinated, recently recovered or have tested negative for the virus from 21 May.

Sharon Bershadsky, Director of the Israel tourist office in London said “this is the news we have been waiting for, for over two years.”

It has been our highest priority to make the process of entering Israel the easiest it can be whilst responsibly looking after our passengers health and safety.

With Israel joining many other countries in dropping all Covid restrictions, I am hopeful that the travel industry has now reached a crucial milestone in this post-pandemic world, she added.

SPAIN EXTENDS COVID ENTRY RULES UNTIL MID-JUNE.

Spain has extended its Covid entry rules for another month.

The restrictions had been due to lapse on Sunday (15 May). However, Spain’s tourist office in the UK confirmed today Monday (16 May) the measures have been extended until Wednesday 15 June by Spain’s interior ministry.

It means adult arrivals will continue to have to provide valid proof of vaccination or recovery from Covid-19.

Spain is continuing to apply its rules for third countries – non EU countries to the UK, despite many other destinations taking a more lenient stance, such as Spain’s neighbour Portugal.

Those unable to provide evidence of full vaccination against Covid-19 and / or proof of recovery will be denied entry.

Children under the age of 12 are exempt, while those aged 12-18 can enter on the basis of a negative pre-travel PCR test for Covid-19.

NHS COVID PASS VALIDITY EXTENDED TO SIX MONTHS.

Printed copies of the Covid Pass are available on request from the NHS are also now valid for six months.

The NHS said, The expiry date on an NHS Covid Pass does not apply to your vaccination status, it applies to the barcodes on the NHS Covid Pass. The barcodes are valid for 180 days.

Foreign Office updates passport advice.

The Foreign Office has updated its advice for travel to the EU to make the rules around passports clearer.

It comes after dozens of British holidaymakers were denied boarding by airlines because of a misunderstanding of the post-Brexit rules.

The latest update should make it easier for British travellers to work out if they need to renew their passport before heading to the EU.

Post Brexit Passport Rules.
There are two new passport rules for travel to the EU since the UK left the European Union.

The first is that passports must be no more than 10 years old to enter the EU.

Some passports issued before October 2018 had additional months added if they were renewed before the previous one expired, which means some people have passports valid for up to 10 years and nine months.

Travellers whose passports were renewed before October 2018 are advised to check the issue date of their passport to make sure it will be no more than 10 years old when they enter a country in the EU.

The 10-year rule applies to children as well as adults, so their passports will always comply with this rule since they expire anyway after five years.

The second rule is that a passport must still be valid for at least three months after the date the traveller plans to leave the EU.

This second rule has caused the most confusion.

Initially the Foreign Office stated passports must be valid for at least six months, not three. Although it corrected the error last year, some people still believe they must have six months left on their passports.

Also, to add to the confusion, until yesterday’s update the Foreign Office was stating that for travel to some Schengen zone countries passports may need to be less than 10 years old for the whole of the visit, and that the three months left at the end must be within 10 years of the issue date.

This was incorrect since the two rules are separate from each other.

So, to be clear, the issue date of the passport is only relevant for entry to the EU, the expiry date is what you need to check to work out if there will still be at least three months left at the end of a trip.

You can read the Foreign Office update for Spain here. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/entry-requirements The Foreign Office has also updated its passport advice for travel to other countries in the EU plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Vatican City.
