I’ve been seeing more and more people getting ripped off and we are getting asked to fix shoddy workmanship all the time. So We thought We would share some tips on how to choose the right tradesmen for your job.
First and foremost ‼️NEVER PAY FOR ANY WORK THAT HAS NOT BEEN DONE‼️Just don’t do it 🚫 It’s not something a genuine tradesman will expect of you. If they ask for it or you feel pressured into this consider someone else.
If it’s a big job you may be asked to pay weekly or something similar, this is fine but make sure you have the payment schedule in writing before work starts and ‼️ONLY PAY FOR WORK COMPLETED.‼️
You may be asked to provide a deposit for materials but ‼️PAY FOR THESE UPON RECEIPT‼️. Any good tradesman will be able to get your materials on credit with no upfront cost or risk to themselves. If they can’t consider someone else.
‼️ITS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT AVOIDING THE LOWEST PRICE‼️, cowboys 🤠 will charge you a lot and still do a runner. Some specialist tradesmen may have specialist equipment and be able to carry out the work faster and cheaper. ‼️BUT IF THE PRICE SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT PROBABLY IS‼️ If the price is considerably lower than your other quotes check that they have included everything you want done.
GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. 📑 This goes for the work carried out and any payment schedules. This should all be done BEFORE ANY WORK IS CARRIED OUT.
STOP EXPECTING IT CHEAPER FOR CASH 💷💷 with cash there is no way of tracing anything and genuine tradesmen will be paying their tax, your going to attract the wrong people. 🦹♂️
GET MULTIPLE QUOTES ✅from recommended tradesmen and ask for references and CHECK THE REFRENCES. CHECK THEIR INSURANCES AND QUALIFICATIONS if they can’t provide them cinsider someone else.
Some jobs can’t be priced accurately and unforeseen problems may very well arise. This will cost you more but as before ‼️GET IT IN WRITING BEFORE THE WORK IS CARRIED OUT. ‼️
The quality triangle applies to tradesmen.
Quality, Time, and price. You can choose 2. Some one that can come and complete your job quickly and cheaply will almost certainly lack quality. ‼️🚫IF YOU WANT QUALITY YOU WILL HAVE TO COMPROMISE ON TIME AND PRICE ‼️🚫Be prepared to wait for and pay for a decent tradesmen.
And just once more because I can’t stress this enough ‼️🚫 NEVER PAY FOR WORK THAT HAS NOT BEEN DONE OR MATERIALS YOU DO NOT HAVE ON YOUR PROPERTY. 🚫‼️
Your property is most likely your biggest asset 🏡 and if you let the wrong people in, it could cost you more than just the money they’ve run off with and the materials you’ve not received. 🤬 Damage and poor work could effect the value of your property, and fixing bad workmanship almost always costs more to put right than if you just done it right the first time.
