Our aim is to show off the best of the area and enable visitors to discover more for themselves, to make them want to come again thus providing the accommodation sector with repeat business. We will pick you up from your accommodation or from a meeting point. We have extensive knowled
ge of the local area and will try to adjust every tour to your interest; whether that is photography, flora and fauna, local history or maybe you just want to enjoy the fantastic views wherever they may lead you. All tours provide the opportunity for frequent stops for bird watching or short walks for photography and an informative commentary will provide general insight into the local history. Cambrian Safaris Tours can include complimentary hotel pick-up, so you can just sit back and relax as you will be chauffeured by your guide in style and comfort in our luxurious Land Rover Discovery and enjoy the wild tranquillity of some of the of the most stunning scenery in the UK. Special arrangements have been made for lunch stops on some trips, local cafés or visitor centres could provide a break on others. Picnic hampers, hot drinks, bird and wildlife identification guides, binoculars, quizzes, interpretation of geology and landscape features, and gold panning are all possible.

The Cwmystwyth mountain road was not only the old coaching route to Aberystwyth but also a Drovers route.
Did you know that the Aberystwyth Mountain Road is an old drover’s road? Drovers were well respected members of society, who would transport livestock and goods from farms to distant markets. To be a licenced drover in Tudor times, you would have to be a married man, over the age of 30 and owned your own home.

Plynlimon, or Pumlumon is the highest point in the Cambrian Mountains - Area Of Astounding Natural Beauty and has 2 names.
Plynlimon derives from a Roman reference to the existence of lead (Plum / Plumbum) in the surrounding country. The Welsh name Pumlumon describes 5 summits.

This is a bit of real life in the mountains.
I wonder how many post rounds could be done on horse back these days.
Postman David Lewis Jones, who took nine hours to complete his round in the remote mountain areas between Tregaron and Abergwesyn, even though he only delivered to eight houses.

The Garrett is an awesome sight. It's huge! I wonder if it's the largest locomotive on 2 foot gauge?. (Ok, 1'11¾")
You can combine a trip on the Vale of Rheidol Railway with one of our tours.
The Garrett can be seen in the V of R's new museum until July.

Have you seen our Garratt locomotive?
Meet 'Drakensberg': it was built in 1927, and is an example of an articulated Garratt locomotive. The locomotive was built in Germany, worked in South Africa, preserved in Switzerland and now works in Wales!
'The Garratt' (as it is known) will be pulling trains to Devil's Bridge in July and August: look out for dates, which will be advertised on our website and social media. Don't miss the chance to get up close to it in our museum before then though!
Museum entry is £5 adults/£3 children (including museum entry), or FREE with a train ticket. Will you be joining us?

Some of my followers will know I worked here for 15 years or so with the late Peter Lloyd Harvey who started all this with his father and various others.
I arrived after all the really hard work had been done, did a little underground digging long ago, but it was as much as we could do to stay open in the late 90s and early 2000s with declining visitor numbers.
A different story now with the Silver Mountain Experience!

Birmingham Baroque, who knew?
Ever wondered what the unique style of the dams is called? The domed valve towers, as seen on Garreg Ddu, Pen y Garreg and Craig Goch dams are in the architectural style known as Birmingham Baroque.
Baroque architecture is a higly decorative style, first appearing in Italy in the early 17th century, gradually spreading across Europe. Baroque architecture and Neoclassical architecture gew in popularity in Birmingham especially during the 19th century.
Of course, the historical link with the Birmingham Corporation Water Department mean that the style reached deep into the heart of Wales.

A Land Rover experience into the Cambrian Mountains and valleys near Aberystwyth, in Ceredigion's Uplands and Tours of Wales in a Land Rover Discovery.
We are based right in the heart of Wales, near Aberystwyth, on the west coast of Wales. Devils Bridge and the Cambrian Mountains are on our doorstep.
We offer;
Our aim is to show off the best of the area and enable you to discover more. The best tours are a whole day out, but a morning or afternoon half-day trip can cover a good area too. We also offer a shorter 2 hour trip, but be aware - the time flies by! We want to show you places you might not have found and to help you discover places you will want to explore more yourselves.
Come and enjoy the fantastic views and scenery, local history and wildlife. We will pick you up from your accommodation or from a meeting point. We have extensive knowledge of the local area and will try to adjust every tour to your interest; whether that is photography, flora and fauna, local history or maybe you just want to enjoy the fantastic views wherever they may lead you.

Lunch stops some trips, will be at local cafés, visitor centres or a pub, or we can arrange a picnic - or you can bring your own if you wish.
