One of our lovely guests Neil has kindly allowed me to share the below email from him this morning

Hi Sanjay..first of all we are having a wonderful time and have just come back from Yala with fabulous leopard shots and sloth bear too. We came back to the “camp site” to play New Year celebration games with the staff and their families and friends which was really lovely.
I thought it might be useful to give you some immediate feedback in case you have clients who are a bit nervous about the current situation.
We have certainly seen quite a few demonstrations ( I certainly wouldn’t want to be called Rajpaksa at the moment) all of which have been peaceful and very good humoured. I went out of my way to talk to people on the street in Colombo and Galle and the mood is a sort of United, frustrated anger but tempered by a mature view of tackling the issues..and not wishing to make matters worse..I’m amazed that everyone knows so much about IMF and sovereign debt.!
The most visible effect is on fuel and gas...there are huge queues of up to a kilometre at gas stations.....again queuing with extraordinary patience. Drivers for Tourists seem to have some sort of preferential treatment which everyone seems to accept quite cheerfully. The mains power is on and off all the time but everywhere we have been has automatic generators which kick in.
If you ask people about the situation they will certainly tell you their views very openly but never have we been made to feel remotely uncomfortable.
In fact just the opposite ,everyone we have met has been extraordinarily friendly even though the shortages must be making their work harder and for less real reward.
So in short based on our experience so far I would tell your clients that there is absolutely no reason to be nervous of coming. There are big difficulties here but they won’t really notice them and their coming will help the Sri Lankans financially and from a morale point of view.
