Steven is getting cold at the nursery!,

With the winter fast approaching, and colder days on the horizon, we desperately need to build an office space at the nursery as soon as possible, so Steven can keep warm and stay involved with the nursery. We have approached several builders and they all seem too busy, so in desperation I am asking if anyone on here can help.

We would like it to be in a traditional style similar to the one in the picture and preferably just under the size required for planning permission. Fully insulated and double glazed, run on solar power, and to include a bathroom with a cesspit. A real home from home!

We have plenty of volunteers who can help with the build but we just need a builder to oversee the construction and to sort out the design, building regs etc. If you can help please call Morag on 07718 972819 or email [email protected]. Thank you.

It's grim out! What's goes better with cold weather than a slow cook lamb/beef joint?

Just picture it...with all the trimmings...the gravy, the stuffing, the Yorkshire pudding ...you want it don't you? You need it don't you? 🤤

We're selling joints, steaks and mince till 14:00 today so come on down. We've got good chat too....promise.

Big news!!!

Allens Farm has opened a pop up campsite!!

Opening on 22nd July and closing at the end of August, we have the perfect location and view for a quiet country getaway. You'll wake up to the singing birds, and sheep and cows...(they have choir practice on Thursdays) and you'll go to bed hearing the owls (and foxes getting intimate) - bliss!

We have made small square bales this year for the first time (well...the first time since we've left school 😅). The baling went well but we naturally thought yesterday was the best day to collect them and hand stack them on trailers...🥵

It might have been mad hot but at least we got some cool pictures!

Yesterday we spent the day moving our ewes and lambs back to Allens Farm from the fields they've been rotationally grazing since April.

We will be shearing in the next couple of weeks so they needed to come home to have time to settle.

It took us all day and we only fell out once... to me that's a successful day!!!

Set in a unique AONB, we are within walking distance of Mayfield and Heathfield, as well as a 30 minute drive to the seaside and numerous National Trust destinations.

The Eastbourne Airshow is also on from 18th the 21st August, and that really is something to experience (who doesn't like the Red Arrows, Chinooks, Typhoons and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight?)

What a beautiful looking sheep!!!

This sheep is my pet from 2019 and she has now had 3 lambs. Richard did have to help her at the end because she tried to give birth to a mammoth!

It's worth noting that Richard does not like this girl as she the biggest pain in the neck when it comes to "low maintenance"...

When you move heavily pregnant sheep, you want it to be as stress free as possible. I think it's safe to say our triplets are feeling quite comfortable in their new home.

These girls will stay here now until they've lambed, and then they'll join their fellow mums out in the luscious green fields that are going to grow like stink over the next 2 weeks...

We always plan to slow down over winter....but inevitably don't. However, most winter jobs are a little too mundane for here and not worth posting...I spent today rearranging the yard....exciting 🙄
..anyway, what better way to get back into it than calving starting? 😁

Last year calving was very easy and we only had to assist one heifer (heifer = first time mum) with the final push. This year we have a lot more heifers and 3 have calved so far. The first lacked much energy and had a huge calf so we had to intervene, the 2nd was more interested in food than her calf 🙄, and the 3rd had the easiest birth ever...then decided to have a massive prolapse 😳. Thankfully the vet got to us quickly and she seems to be recovering well.

One of the main reasons we choose Sussex Cattle over other breeds is they're normally a breeze to calf. Lots of things (age, nutrition, genetics, bull etc.) can affect ease of calving so hopefully we've got the rest right and they get back to being breezy!

Quarter/Half/Whole lamb boxes are available, and 5kg/10kg beef boxes are available to pre-order (date for these TBC). Our next lamb run will be at the end of January, so please get your orders in before 18th January.
