On Nakba Day, Wednesday 15 May 2024, take collective action in your workplace to stand in solidarity with Palestinians resisting the ongoing Nakba.

Today, Palestinians in Gaza, the majority of whom are refugees from Israel’s previous rounds of ethnic cleansing, face another Nakba. They are experiencing genocide and the real threat of expulsion. Across the occupied West Bank, Palestinians are facing down a wave of military invasions, assassinations and settler attacks to drive them from their lands and homes.

For 76 years, Israel’s settler-colonial project has fragmented the Palestinian people by geography and legal status, denied Palestinian refugees their right to return to their lands, and has entrenched a regime of control that systematically discriminates against Palestinians in all aspects of life. Israel’s current genocide is built on the foundations of this project.

Palestinian workers have called on workers in Britain to take meaningful action in solidarity with their struggle against Israel’s system of oppression, including on 15 May.

As Israel continues to threaten a full-scale military offensive against 1.5 million Palestinian people trapped in Rafah, take action in your workplace on 15 May to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom, to call for an end to British complicity in Israel’s atrocities, and to mobilise for the national demonstration on Saturday 18 May.

Discuss with your colleagues what kind of action is best suited to your workplace and its circumstances. Take action in your workplace:

* Organise a short stoppage or lunch-time walk-out in solidarity with Palestinians. Gather outside your workplace for a photo or organise a delegation to visit a nearby student encampment if there is one in your town or city.

* Circulate a petition calling on your employer to speak up in solidarity with Palestine, or for the divestment of pension fund holdings from companies complicit in Israel’s attacks.

* Organise a lunch-time teach-in or film screening to educate colleagues about the Palestinian struggle for freedom.

* If you’re working from home or alone, take a picture with a Palestinian flag and send it in to PSC.

* Distribute leaflets for the national demonstration on 18 May in London.

Have you developed an exciting food or drink product?

To meet the (hopefully) huge demand, entrepreneurs need to approach food and drinks manufacturers to produce their product at scale.

This can seem a daunting task. You want to ensure the final product tastes just as good when you first made it, while ensuring that the financial aspects of the deal don't undermine your profit margin.

Tom Lock, founder and MD of Awfully Posh (AP) Brands, gives his top tips in today's blog for entrepreneurs with their first food or drink products to manufacture.

Here's my message to Laxman Narasimhan, CEO of Starbucks. He says Starbucks are going to change. I encourage you to message him with your suggestions on how Starbucks can improve. This is my suggestion:

Your financial support for Israel and being linked to slavery puts you at the top of retailers to avoid. Any of your customers that buy anything from your disgustingly overpriced products has blood on their hands. If you want to really change, use your $24.567 billion profit in 2023 to rebuild Gaza, which you helped destroy. It's a shame those profits can't bring back the lives of all of those Palestinians you helped kill.

As a global citizen, I am deeply concerned about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The escalating violence has led to an unacceptable loss of civilian life. This is not just a political issue; as global citizens it’s personal. I firmly believe that if we, the citizens of the world, unite, we can demand peace! It is our duty to ensure the rights and freedoms of all global citizens are upheld.

In 2023, nobody should have to needlessly die in war. All life is equal and every effort must be made to find a peaceful resolution. According to data from the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), thousands of civilians have been killed or injured in this conflict over recent years.

I call on the International Court of Justice to act as mediator in this crisis. Their involvement could help bring about an immediate ceasefire and pave the way for long-term peace negotiations.

This petition isn’t just about stopping current violence; it’s about preventing future generations from having to endure such suffering again. Let us stand together as global citizens demanding peace!

Please sign this petition today!

Here are some pics I took on 4th July, as the camp celebrated Independence Day.

As you saw in my reel on Tuesday, they love to celebrate this day and the majority are earnest in their patriotic pride.

The pictures show the staff and kids pre Doo Dah Parade, then during it, then the campfire, then the fireworks.

I used my Panasonic LUMIX and took some videos too, but so far been unable to transfer those videos to my phone or computer 🤷‍♂️

I’ll get them on here once/if I solve this issue.

Day 3 in New York.

Today was subdued after no sleep last night. I had to leave my hostel but they kindly let me stay after my checkout time.

I was too tired to do anything too strenuous, so I decided to have a wander through Central Park. Lots to see and do in there.

I walked for a bit and decided to lay down on the grass and listen to a jazz band.

I also checked out Strawberry Field, a black & white tile mosaic honouring John Lennon, who was shot outside the Dakota, a few metres away.

I also went into the Hallett Nature Sanctuary to test my camera skills and attempt to capture some wildlife. It was an epic fail on that front and the winding paths and nooks and crannies of the sanctuary meant that finding the exit was more of a challenge than I expected.

Lots of life and lights in Manhattan.

Day 1 in New York.

Total tourist today visiting the Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center Memorial, African Burial Grounds, and the Fire station from Ghostbusters.

No prizes for guessing the two most moving places.

On Sunday night, after the Feria de Nossa Senhora da Paz (Our Lady of Peace Festival) I was standing next to a tree and heard a mighty thud.

From the tree next to me I saw this heavy spathe lying on the ground. It had fallen 25ft from the palm tree top and hit the ground with the force of all it’s 15kg weight.

Glad I wasn’t standing beneath that tree. My luck must be changing 🍀

At the luxury apartment of entrepreneur Marc Hixon, next to Copacabana beach. Canadian, 31 year old, is an inspiring guy and taught me a ton of advice to live the life I want… his basically 😄

Has worked hard to get to his current position, allowing him to work less and earn more. He has the freedom to travel, rent expensive Airbnbs, spend hours relaxing at the beach, makes money in his sleep.

If that’s the life I want, failure is not an option.

Ellen Harvey’s centre-piece at the Turner Contemporary is a new work called The Disappointed Tourist, comprising over 200 paintings of sites that have disappeared.

It’s remarkable and worth zooming in to fully appreciate her work.

From the Temple of Bel in Syria to Brandy Bucks restaurant in Margate, Harvey has crowd sourced places from across the world.

Embarking on this work before the Covid-crisis, it has developed an unexpected resonance.
