I was listening to Janet Jackson being interviewed in the radio the other day and had my mind blown.. Samuel L Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Tracy Chapman are all her cousins 😮😮😮 I would so love to look at her family tree 😄😄. Do you feel like the odd one out in that family if you’re not insanely talented 🤔🤔.

In other genealogy musings WDYTYA 2024 begins tomorrow night hurrah 🎉 Paddy McGuinness is first up.

As a Historian I've always believed that history should be studied, to understand what happened in the past both good & bad to ensure that the same things don't happen again. The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial is one of those places that shows the brutality of the past in the hope our children do not make the same decisions of their ancestors.

Remembering our family holiday to the Highlands of Scotland a couple of years ago and the desolate emptiness of the countryside with the ruins of crofts and larger houses from the clearances dotted over the landscape. Hauntingly beautiful.

Haven't had one of these for a while but how about this for an unusual forename Artissadella for a little girl. Ive checked the original document and it definitely looks like this is how its spelt.

A very late Family History Friday - but it is still Friday. My note for today is ..when you realise what a small world it is. I met my husband at Aberystwyth University, he’s from Yorkshire and my family are from London.. I grew up in Bristol as my parents moved here when I was small and his family moved to the Midlands when he was at primary school.

When I began helping my inlaws researching their family trees I discovered my husband’s Great Granddad lived a couple of miles away from my family house where I grew up in Bristol and he’s buried in Arnos Vale cemetery near the city centre.

It's nearly Summer in this Genealogist's house - Daughter No'2's exams have finished and Daughter No'1 has completed her final year - degree show was fabulous - and she's home this week woo hoo :)

And my favourite flower the Peony is out in my garden :)

Don't forget that whilst the sun is (hopefully) shining history research carries on - get in early and book your family history package today, for that Special Birthday, Wedding Anniversary, Wedding - or dare I say it, get organised in time for this Christmas.

On this 'Longest Day' we think of those who arrived on those Normandy beaches (if they were lucky not to have drowned on the way) to help free Europe from Fascism and ensure that we in this country did not suffer the same fate.

My Mum's cousin Frederick is buried in a WW2 cemetery in Normandy where he died 80 years ago today on D-Day. Two more of his and Mum's cousins also lost their lives during WW2 and another one became a Canadian War Hero for his escape attempts from German Prisoner of War camps.

I realise I've been a bit quiet on here lately, especially lacking with my family history friday posts sorry.

We've been a bit busy, and I also decided to set up a business selling plants. This is will be mostly houseplants but also some hardy garden plants as well. I've set up a small nursery of house plants in my greenhouse and am working with the 'from small acorns large oak trees grow' philosophy.

With family history I have always loved how large family trees can grow from only one set of parents and so from small little plants can a business grow :)

Family History Friday Post - for those of you with large families what's the largest age gap you have between youngest and eldest siblings or cousins??

My Great Granddad was the eldest of 16 children, (only 5 lived to adulthood) there was 24 years between him and his youngest sibling. His youngest sibling was only a year older than his eldest son.

I have 25 paternal cousins and there is 28 years between my eldest and my youngest cousin.

Family History Friday again.. yes I know its late afternoon but it's been a busy day, it's still Friday.

Any weird and wonderful stories that have been passed down your family?

Mine is my Mum's grandfather was from Germany, however because of WW1 & WW2 everyone was always told & believed he was from Alsace- Lorraine or Belgium. My mum had even been sent a child's teaset by the Belgian authorities after Belgium was liberated. We only discovered the truth after I began researching 20 years ago.

Family History Friday - what strange story have you discovered whilst researching your family tree?

I'll start off with one from mine - an ancestor of mine apparently should have been at the Battle of Rorke's Drift with his regiment but due to his being worse the wear for drink he was in the 'clink' at the time.

Whether he was actually meant to be in the battle, I'm unsure however he is definitely listed in the book I've pictured below as being in 'clink' due to being drunk.

Its World Book Day today, I must admit I am not missing those days of having to get my two children dressed up for school. No I'm not posting any photos - they'd kill me 🤣

I am a bookworm (I think we should be called book dragons 😊), my dream would be to have a house large enough to have a library. This is my latest book purchase, interesting but also of practical use.

I haven't done a 'weird and wonderful name' from history in ages.. Anyway today's is Hankin. This is a forename from my own family tree from the 1600's. As a surname Hankin is patronymic meaning son of John or it can also be a pet name for John.

At such an early time for documents to have survived I'm not sure if I will discover if my ancestor was given this name as it was a name from his mother's side or further back.

I also looked at Wikipedia for fun and according to them it has another meaning - from old norse for high kin.

We are planning a trip to Europe this summer and I've just realised we are going to be travelling really close to where my Huguenot ancestors lived.

Wonder if my family will mind a little detour to see if there's any of the old buildings or churches left from the 1600's 🤔🤔

The trials of having a genealogist for a wife/mum 😆😅

This is my 2x Great Grandmother, her father was the last of the Silk Weavers in my family. So the story goes she was blinded by the silk dyes when she was a child.
