(4)

She offers the finest traditional sailing in the Western Isles of Scotland, in Cornwall and the West country. Come on your own, with a friend, partner or a whole group and explore some of the best sailing grounds, abundant wildlife, good food and company and fantastic sailing. Sailing on Eda is a hands on experience, you can become involved in all aspects of running the boat as well as have time t

o sit back, relax and enjoy the surroundings. All trips include bedding, all meals using locally sourced fresh produce, wet weather and safety equipment and professional crew. that's not a problem, many people haven't, you'll receive a full briefing and Eda is very stable with large decks and plenty of space. Whether you are a beginner or experienced seafarer, there is plenty to do and we are happy to teach if you are interested to learn. All ages are welcome

If you are interested or would like to find out more about sailing on Eda, the best way is to call or email us or visit or website www.eda-frandsen.co.uk

Eda started life as a Danish fishing vessel and in the 1990s was discovered by her previous owners, who took her to Scotland, rebuilt and fitted her out for her current use as a charter vessel. A gaff cutter rig was chosen, with a large yet versatile sail area, rather than a ketch rig that would have been favoured for fishing. After a major fire ashore in 1993, she was extensively rebuilt by the owners, which involved a team of volunteers, lots of hard work and determination, and 3 years later Eda was launched. Beautifully kept and maintained, the level of craftsmanship and detail is first class.

Wowee folks! We’ve made it to Stornoway! And we recieved this lovely photo of Eda at anchor off Luskentyre from our voyage here! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙🌊⚓️
Our journey took us from Mallaig to Rùm, the North end of Skye, through the Sound of Harris and back up the coast of Lewis before finally settling in Stornoway old town where the days are endless! We took a whistle stop tour of the Isle of Lewis via the Callanish standing stones yesterday and we will be back on our way tomorrow!
Does anyone else feel like the summer is flying by?!

This nearly never happens…

Right folks, due to a group cancellation earlier this year we still have 3 berths available on our Mallaig to Mallaig voyage starting on the 29th of June.
As we think it would be a real shame not to have a full complement of sailors to enjoy this prime sailing week, we have decided to offer a 25% discount on the remaining 3 berths in the hope that some of you can join us!
6 nights Mallaig to Mallaig is now £1012.50 per person for all food and accommodation. For more information please check our our Voyages 2024 page on our website, send us a booking form and we’ll get right back to you!

Majestic Rùm
There’s nothing small about the mountains that sit atop the largest of the Small Isles. Sat right on our doorstep outside Mallaig, this mighty island is one of our favourite places to explore.

With this many paths, passes, and secluded bays, it’s great anchorage and abundant wildlife, there’s plenty to explore before you really get to know this place.

Every year when we sail around Ardnamurchan point I get a little flutter of butterflies when I see the huge heaping shapes of the mountains of Hallival & Askival bearing down on us.

Oh Scotland it’s good to be back 🥰

Woweee, we were so lucky last week to be joined by and her gang of artists for a wonderful week of Sketch-booking under sail!
🎨🖼️
The weather gods looked fondly down on upon us as we travelled from Oban to Mallaig for the most part in glorious sunshine! One stormy last day in Inverie meant some dedicated time to put the final touches to the works of art around Eda’s saloon table, with an evening of sharing our sketchbooks to follow.

We are now firmly back in our summer stomping ground for the season and we couldn’t be happier!

A taste of life onboard 🪢 Just some words of wisdom from some of our lovely guests ♥️

“Whether you are an experienced sailor or a complete beginner, don’t hesitate to book a voyage on Eda.

Mungo and Stella skillfully cater for all. The calm way in which the boat is handled with attention to safety and the fantastic food produced by Stella from the confines of the galley will make your trip unforgettable whether you are in Cornwall or Scotland. My recent trip in the Inner Hebrides gave us great sailing, beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife (including dolphins riding the bow wave), a magical visit to Fingal’s Cave and close-up views of a puffin colony. Oh, did I mention the food? I have been on a number of tall ship charter voyages and Eda is still the best.”

Fancy a taste of life aboard yourself? Join us in Mallaig this Summer to experience the best that the West Coast of Scotland has to offer! 🐚 💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛵️🪢

A big shout out goes to this guy for being one of the best crew members we have ever sailed with….!.jordan.clariana joined us onboard Eda for the passage from Falmouth to Oban having never met Mungo or I, or set foot onboard Eda before. He fit so seamlessly into his role of First Mate it is hard to recall life without him, he will be back, later in the summer but first he has a little adventure to Svalbard to complete. If you are lucky enough to sail with Jan on any vessel this summer you are in for an absolute treat, he’s the best! ⛵️⚓️🏔️

A big thank you to our wonderful crew of sailors for gallantly steering night watches with hot water bottles stuffed down the front of their oilskins. But the sun has been firmly shining since we arrived and we are looking forward to a full summer of sailing ahead!

I’ve just updated our website with a few newly available berths so if you have always wanted to join us but missed the boat, head to the Voyages 2024 page now!

Phew that was a busy week! Apologies to anyone that emailed us last week, we were otherwise occupied getting Eda anti-fouled for the season ahead! Huge tides and “great” weather 😂 meant that it had to happen at night time, we can confirm that drying the keel of a boat this size with a heat gun in the dark is not a task for the faint hearted!

That said, the weather has seen a marked improvement since then and Spring has officially Sprung here in Cornwall! 🌷🌻🪻🌞 In fact, next weekend is looking BEAUTIFUL and we still have a couple of berths available if anyone fancies a last minute dash for some hard earned time on the water! We are very excited to get back to sailing again!

Keep an eye on our Voyage pages for current availability! ♥️

It’s been a few years since have had the chance to spend Easter with our families, normally we would be firmly afloat by this time of year, sharing hot cross buns and many a chocolatey tea time treat with you all! 🐣

It’s been lovely to spend the long weekend going for walks and taking a rest before the sailing season kicks in. That said, the arrival of my new cooker has got me brimming with ideas that I can’t wait to put on your plates this summer!

I’ve been looking back at photos from the last few seasons on Eda, so here are some of my favourite Selected Eats “21,”22,”23 to get you in the spirit for the summer ahead!

If you are joining us onboard in Mallaig this summer you will be delighted to hear that some of the cost of your voyage will be going to the Knoydart Forest Trust!

The Knoydart Forest Trust are working hard to enhance biodiversity and habitat resilience and mitigate against climate change through woodland creation and appropriate management on the remote peninsula.

The development of social and economic activities is essential to ensure the resilience of the community on Knoydart and its woodlands into the future. How they develop depends on the availability of resources - financial and human. The availability of affordable accommodation for workers is a significant challenge.

From our vantage point on the water, we witness the way the forest and native woodland is distributed across the region between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn first hand. Contributing to the tree planting efforts by the local community on Knoydart is the most worthwhile way that we can come up with of giving something back to the place we love so much.

The work is guided by 20-year Woodland Management and Forest Plans which cover forestry, and social and economic activities. The plans are compiled through community and stakeholder consultation, networking with other woodland initiatives and research and are reviewed every 10 years.

So you are not only making a great decision by choosing a sail-powered holiday, but you are giving back to the local area and helping to plant more trees!

You can read more about their plans and why we feel it’s important to support the work they are doing on the journal page of our website!

Right folks, here goes nothing. Every year we manage to miss the window for nomination at the Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards as we are too wrapped up in the final preparations for the summer ahead. Not this time!

If you think that Eda Frandsen Sailing deserves a nod of approval for providing 25 years of sailing holidays on the West Coast of Scotland, you can nominate us here for the "Best Outdoor or Adventure Experience" Category!

https://entries.hitourismawards.com/nominations

It really would mean the world to us, as a very tiny business to share what we do with the rest of the tourism industry in Scotland. Thank you! We will see you all back out on the water very soon!

Do you know a business, individual or event in Scotland that deserves recognition, or perhaps a little encouragement to enter the awards?

You might have noticed we have been a little quiet over here lately!

I realise that it is a little known fact, that I ( ) sometimes find time to continue my practice as an artist around life onboard. Over this winter I have been multitasking and currently have a little exhibition of paintings up at a gallery space in Penryn!

Funnily the two jobs sit quite nicely together, I make the paintings on Eda’s deck around painting and varnishing the boat. Some of the recent work is from time in Scotland and some of it goes much further back, covering the last 10 years of living and working on at sea.

Paintings, drawings and stories from 10 years at Sea is up over the weekend at Grays Wharf on commercial road, pop in and say hi if you are passing!

For those of you spread far and wide, more info is available at www.stella-marina.co.uk

Do you feel yourself emerging from the winter chrysalis, folding back the covers? We do!

It may only be February, but here in Cornwall, there are small signs of spring quietly trying to break through. Crocuses and snowdrops peaking out along the footpath, a daffodil or two.

Which means, without further ado, it must be time for us to launch our Sailing schedule for next Summer! ⛵️🌊🐚🎉

In a rather wild turn of events, having sent it to our email subscribers just 24hrs ago, quite a lot of it has already filled up! So if you have always wanted to give sailing a whirl but never quite made the leap, now is the time to go for it! Head to our website now to see what we have coming up!

To those of you booked to sail with us in 2024, we will see you very soon, we are very much looking forward to welcoming you all aboard!

With best wishes,

Stella & Mungo

What's going on on the Penryn River?

Some of you may or may not know our good friend Spike, but as many of you are rather fond of Wooden Boats, we thought you might like to see what he has been up to!

By anyone's standards, it's pretty impressive, Spike and his merry gang are working hard to restore the Lowestoft Smack KEEWAYDIN where she lies in Sailors Creek. (with particular reference to the video of them managing to take the main mast out of her without a crane!).

It's an all-hands-on-deck project, including sourcing, milling and transporting the Oak for her restoration by river, but honestly, if anyone can do it, Spike can.

So give them a follow! We have really enjoyed seeing their updates and hope you will too!
