Another day guiding for , this time in Eryri (Snowdonia) and the highest mountain in Wales and England, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
The weather gods didn't smile at us with rain and wind for the majority of the day, despite this we had a great time.

A pretty big day for and their clients. Over 32km and 1720m of ascent in Bannau Brycheiniog.
A great effort by everyone involved and a big thanks to and Rob Lloyd for their support.

A review day! My Friday client wants to do a 40km route through Bannau Brycheiniog, I was not sure if a 3.5km section is possible so today I checked it out.
Happy to report it's a goer!

A little bit of 1 to 1 Navigation training to get my client ready to attend a Mountain Training Mountain Leader Course.
Massive weather contrast from last weekend, shorts and tee shirt then waterproofs and gloves today! Always check the weather before heading out!
Apparently every adventurer needs an adventure dog! Meet Rab, I suspect he will be joining me in the mountains after he finishes chewing his way through my house. 😂
What a great few weeks with some great company on our Mera Peak Adventure. We summited a day earlier due to the weather forecast with a 100% summit success.
A big thankyou to Jagged Globe and Andy Chapman their guide who looked after us.
What next? A 7,000m peak? 🤔
Heading to Nepal for my own adventures, I will be back mid May hopefully with some great photos to share 😊
Mountain Skills weekend! Saturday, the weather was shocking (but excellent for teaching navigation!), Sunday was much more of an enjoyable day!
Time to refresh my maps for my Skills Courses!
They do get a bit of a battering and some have been taken by the wind in the past!
If my old ones have some life left I usually donate to local pubs and B&Bs for their guests to use. 😊

7 brave people joined me last night for my final night hike as part of Dark Skies Wales Week! The weather was not as bad as forecasted but we had no chance of stargazing 😞.
Despite this we talked about what can be seen in the winter months and how to find them.
There will be a Bannau Brycheiniog Dark Skies Festival in September where I will be leading another stargazing hike.

An enjoyable night last night delivering my second hike as part of Dark Skies Wales Week. It was a tad misty on top but as we came down we saw Jupiter, Orion and Cassiopeia to name a few. 😊

It was a mixture of conditions throughout the night, but the stars did make an appearance 😊.
Saturday is fully booked but I have spaces on my Night Hike on Pen Y Fan on Friday.

The weather of high wind with rain and no visibility is not ideal for climbing mountains. So instead we stayed low and sheltered whilst we explored some hidden gems like Castell y Bere and Mary Jones Chapel.
Thought I'd test my high altitude boots today, a bit of an overkill but needed to be done!

A bespoke navigation session, started off in some poor visibility conditions before the mist burned off. Ideal for teaching navigation!
Whilst already a Brecon Ambassador I couldn't resist having a look at their new ambassador scheme through Wales Ambassador!
In any case it is good to refresh/increase knowledge in the areas that I guide so I can give my clients an excellent experience.
A training day to get myself ready for Mera Peak!
I will be taking every opportunity I get to get up into the mountains for either long days with many peaks or short days where I will push myself hard. So day it was Pen y Fan, Corn Du and Y Gyrn, a route that I allow 4 to 5 hours when guiding was done in just over 2 hours!

2023 was a great year for Trigpoint Adventures with the most courses run, people trained and guided since we began. I would like to say a big thank you to all that have joined me on a course or on a hike 😊.
I am pleased to say that 2024 is looking to be equally busy despite me taking some time out for my own adventures - stay tuned for news on this as I get myself ready and hopefully live progress!
My Skills Courses for 2024 are now published with a Hill and Mountain Skills scheduled most months from March to November. If a you want to attend one of my courses but the date does not suit, please contact me as I may be able to offer alternative dates.
I will also be also revamping some of my hiking routes for 2024 in order to decrease pressure on hotspots as much as I can. But don't worry the likes of Pen y Fan will still be on the itinerary as we journey through the South Wales Mountains!
Looking forward to seeing you in the mountains in 2024!

Always nice to get feedback, the following came from my last Mountain Skills course:
"This was my first experience of hiking in mountains and its different to hills, I thought I was prepared but I wasn’t, and it made me look at all of my gear again, especially as I’ll be attempting the Welsh 3000’s next year. Dorian provided a good mix of classroom and on hike training. This provided for an informal environment where the small group of us (6) were able to relax, learn and bounce off each other. It was a mix of individual skill and team, and I learnt a lot about maps that actually I didn’t know. I think I was kind of good at the physical reading of a map but had a bit to learn on baring’s and use of a decent compass. I will get one.
I thought the pace of the group was really good and the environment met for some real challenges. Post course Dorian sent me loads of information to support my own ongoing development and learning. Now that much equipment is bought online using someone else’s knowledge of equipment / experience is vital when making what can be expensive purchases, this is another additional benefit of training with Dorian.
