Last week I was invited to be one of the first to experience NCL’s new ship, Norwegian Aqua. I was very impressed and think she really leads the way in the large ship mainstream family market into more of a premium bracket.

My top 5 things (not in order):
- good size bathrooms & showers in standard cabins
- beautiful spaces and exclusivity in The Haven
- the transformable theatre/entertainment space
- the many bar & restaurant areas (you need to stay for more than a week to try them all!!)
- relaxing spa area, lounge & many thermal rooms eg salt rooms, saunas, steam rooms, hot beds etc

There was just one thing that really bothered me - the water slide right in front of the balcony of one of the top Haven suites, plus other balconies overlooking it giving no privacy. If I was paying the top dollar required for one of these suites I wouldn’t be happy…

Do you take a mini 1st kit when you travel?
I certainly do - it’s a staple at the bottom of the suitcase.

After calling on it this week for the first time in ages it’s made me realise a couple of things that I’d share as my top tips:

- regularly check the expiry dates of the contents (I did that today and realised the vast majority were waaaay beyond this - and we’re talking years here!! So I’ll be restocking at the chemist on Monday!)

- take some spare prescription medication in case you lose or forget any, or you end up with a delayed return flight and need more than you’d planned.

- before you travel, check on any drug bans for the country you’re going to. Eg in many countries codeine is banned and severe penalties may be applied.

- take a copy of your prescription and/or a letter from your doctor specifying all your medication and the reason for taking it

I’m one lucky lady - I’ve got some very exciting work trips coming up over the next couple of months.

Having just returned from the Norwegian Aqua (and Uniworld’s SS Joie de Vivre last week in Paris), I’m now looking forward to 3 very different styles of luxury cruising.

Firstly I’m doing 4 nights on Hebridean Princess off the west coast of Scotland. Then I’m on board Explora I in the Mediterranean and then Crystal Serenity (in a Sapphire suite - wow)

But don’t worry that I’m not here from you - as always I’ll be picking up emails and messages, plus my TC colleague/assistant Jo will be available. And in an emergency there’s always our 24/7 Duty Office.

‼️Heathrow airport closure ‼️

As you may of seen all over the news. A fire has broken out at an electrical substation on Nestles Avenue in the Hayes area of London, and firefighters are currently working hard to bring it under control.

Unfortunately, this means the fire has also caused Heathrow Airport to temporarily close, with operations expected to resume no earlier than 23:59 local time on March 21.

We are currently waiting on airlines to update us with any policy's available.
Although I’m currently in Paris, both my team member in the U.K., Jo, and I will obviously be there to help my customers who are affected by this massive disruption.
It is likely that this will have a knock-on affect for the next few days. If you’ve booked with me I will contact you asap. ✈️🤦🏼‍♀️

This is my room - looks comfortable enough EXCEPT it has one of my “pet peeves” - no proper bathroom, and a frosted glass shower next to the bed. An absolute no-no in my book. Last week I had the pleasure of revisiting a ship I’ve sailed on in the past - Azamara Onward. For the first time, Azamara had 2 ships in Southampton - Quest & Onward; 2 of the 4 sister ships that make up the fleet. I love these ships, and many of you will know that I consider Azamara Quest to be my “home from home” - small, boutique luxury floating hotels with an emphasis on destination immersion. Every cruise there is a White Night - a fabulous feast on deck followed by live music and dancing. Depending on the length of the cruise there will often be extra special events as well, eg a Jazz Brunch on a sea day, deck BBQ etc CABINS/SUITES To be honest, the cabins aren’t the largest, but you have to remember that these ships were built several years ago! But they are still very comfortable and well-appointed. They’ve also changed the infamous shower curtains to non-stick curtains made from bamboo. CREW I personally think that Azamara has some of the best crew at sea, with many having stayed with the company for years. The crew are friendly and personable but also professional, and genuinely seem happy to be there. I find it incredible how they remember you from previous cruises. This time on board, 2 years since my cruise on Onward, 3 of the crew members recognised and approached me to say hi. How special does that make guests feel? ENTERTAINMENT Being a small ship you’re not going to get full-scale Broadway productions on board, however Azamara does have their own singers & dancers for cabaret style performances, alongside bringing onboard international entertainers including musicians, comedians, magicians etc. They also have their own musicians & band
