WOW

Isn’t this a stunning view?

This is the Alaska Highway, running from BC to Whitehorse, Yukon, and is considered one of the most scenic drives during May/June. The journey is 1100 kilometers long and is full of breathtaking scenery of the majestic mountains, lakes and rivers of the Canadian Rockies. This trip is full of beautiful scenery of nature, snow-capped mountains and natural beauty.

So What Have I Booked This Week?

One of my favourite bookings this week was a honeymoon for a couple who wanted to explore Japan and South Korea, with an emphasis on authentic food, followed by a fabulous beach stay. After looking at a few options we settled on a lovely adult only resort in Thailand.

This trip is a real adventure using a mix of transportation, including flights, private cars, public buses, trains (including the Shinkansen bullet train). Accommodation ranges from hotels to traditional guesthouses and beach resorts. The itinerary includes some sightseeing, foodie tours, a cooking class etc.

This is a true exploration of Asia and I’m sure they’re going to love it.

CRYSTAL CRUISES

Yesterday I met up with our rep for the relaunched ultra-luxury cruise company, Crystal Cruises.

Currently the cruiseline has its 2 original ships, Crystal Symphony & Serenity. These are beautiful mid-size traditional ships, which have been revitalised under the new ownership of Abercrombie & Kent. With a bright future ahead they have got 5 new ships on the order books.

Before they came back into service the ships were given a massive overhaul with suites enlarged and guest numbers reduced. Now the ships have the largest lead-in suites at sea and have the highest space ratio compared to similar ships. With a 1:1 crew to guest ratio the service levels are second to none.

There is a strong focus on dining, with speciality restaurants included in the fare, and with 9 dining options available. The cruiseline has had a long term relationship with Nobu, who operates Umi Uma restaurant on board. Recently Beefbar also joined the well known brands on board.

The ships sail worldwide and therefore no 2 journeys are alike as they only stay in each destination for a short time before moving on.

Restful sea days are interspersed with exotic ports on this cruise from Los Angeles to Auckland.

Wave goodbye to the Hollywood hills and relax onboard with five days at sea, sailing across the South Pacific. Greet the sun-kissed shores of Kahului and Honolulu in Hawaii before mixing more sea days and fascinating ports of call in Polynesia, until we reach the port of Papeete in Tahiti.

From there we sail on to Fiji, taking in some of the South Pacific’s sugar-sand beaches, turquoise lagoons and pearly-white atolls.

There are stops, too, to hike up Bora Bora’s Mount Otemanu and snorkel amid a kaleidoscope of tropical fish in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Fast-forward 24 hours as we cross the dateline, spying humpback whales in Tonga and stopping at Fiji’s port of Lautoka.

Next comes Suva, Fiji’s little capital before raising a glass to Champagne Beach in Vanuatu, where we will be welcomed with a traditional water music ceremony.

Then we explore New Caledonia and Norfolk Island and stop at the delightful Bay of Islands before reaching our final destination, Auckland.

So What Have I Booked This Week?

Today’s focus is on something a little different as many of you know me for cruising and luxury long haul holidays. So I thought I’d show you what else I can do…

One of my bookings this week was a rebook from a cancelled Covid trip. It was great being able to put together and tweak this self-drive trip in northern France including ferries and accommodation. This part of the world is truly beautiful - and so easy to get to from the UK, whether for a long weekend or a good couple of weeks! Full of history and stunning scenery it’s so easy to overlook somewhere so close to home, but this area is definitely worth a visit.
