Sometimes you climb for a view...sometimes you just climb. Grasmoor from Crummock is a climb...a long steep climb too. However despite being in cloud we got the odd glimpses that made it all worthwhile...that and an excellent cake in the tearoom in Buttermere. 😋😴

No visit to The Lakes is complete without absorbing its rich and varied cultural heritage...and where better to start than Hill Top? The interior is charming and inspired so many illustrations used in her books. You need to book tickets online via the National Trust website before you go. Nice to find a coffee and cake hut in the old orchard too! And back home to Stone Cottage where Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny can be found eating the herbs in the garden 😂🐰

Day 2 on the Ullswater Way from Pooley Bridge back to Stone Cottage. We went via The Cockpit and stone circle which leads to a glorious path down to Howtown with super views of Ullswater. Lunch at the lovely tea room at the Howtown Hotel...which was not busy, and then the tougher path back along the Lake, which again was very quiet. The Lakes are noticeably quieter this summer. Celebrated with a slap up meal at The Yan. Our favourite place to eat. 😋

Day 1 walking the Ullswater Way from Stone Cottage to Pooley Bridge was a really super low level walk with breathtaking views. The section from Gowbarrow to Pooley Bridge was new to me and very pretty and peaceful. Caught the Steamer with 5 minutes to spare....and this shows how uncrowded the Lakes can be, even in high summer! We had a private cruise 😀

A view of Crummock Water and Buttermere...but not as you know it. This one is made with 200,000 pieces of Lego by artist Jon Tordoff. On display at Windermere Jetty Museum this summer. Also a Lego room for little ones to play and build.
