Weddings 2024. It’s been a ride.

This year I’ve tried more than ever to be authentic, and to capture the reality (and madness) of weddings. It’s so hard to work out what you lovely lot are looking for in your wedding photos, so I work backwards - producing what I like and trusting that it’ll resonate with at least a few of you. As 2025 is closing in, it seems to be working.

‘Tis the season. This post kills two birds with stone. First, black wedding dresses are the bomb (and very apt for Halloween obviously), and second, this peach of a wedding for LJ and Simon was at the awesome in Southampton where I’ll be exhibiting at their wedding fair this Saturday.

It’s been a busy old few days. Having shot two weddings this weekend, and then a trip to London yesterday for an awesome pre-wedding shoot it feels my head is spinning. That being said, it’s been soooo good.

I will always love couples who want to just go stomp around fields to take some photos. I just hit send on Evangeline and Lukas’ wedding gallery and it was a peach of a wedding to edit.

HOWDY!
There’s been a flurry of new folk following me here, so here’s a rambling introduction post for y’all.
⚡️The first pic is me and my youngest lad (taken by the top dude ). We live near Portsmouth and generally spend our time goofing about. I’ve got waaaaay less hair now than I did in this pic.
⚡️My style? It’s always hard to pin it down, but I’d say “stylised natural”. I keep things as natural as possible, but I’ll intervene a bit to bring out that sliver of awesomeness that sometimes shies away when a camera comes out. I let the wedding happen and just kinda point my camera at it.
⚡️Why weddings? Well, frankly, they’re fantastic. Yes they’re also hard work, but it’s the one place where you can be pretty sure you’re going to see the best of humanity. Plus I get hugs.
⚡️ Who tends to book me? A HUGE range of couples. One thread tends to run through them though. They want their wedding to be about them and their guests and not the photographer. They want their wedding to be all kinds of fun. They believe that they shouldn’t be stood around for an hour having photos yet they truly value their photography.

As always, October rolls around and this is when I really get on top of my life. From April to September I’m frankly M.I.A. Almost on autopilot. But during October I’m then in full on edit and reflection mode. Looking back, this year has been banging!
Take this wedding, Amanda and Hannah at I don’t really have time to stop and think “yeah that was friggin ace” until I get a moment. And yeah, Amanda and Hannah’s day was indeed friggin ace.
Now is also the time I look ahead to next year and looking to fill those gaps in the calendar. Spring is pretty quiet, summer is getting full, autumn is quiet. But that’ll change I’m sure.
If you’re planning a wedding and you’re after a fairly decent (aka damn fine) wedding photographer, do give me a shout.

Just a few frames from the quite amazing wedding of Naomi and Aaron in Portsmouth. It’s my second wedding at and I’ve loved both. Plus you’re spoilt for choice around there for places to have pics.

I flipping love that micro-weddings have remained a thing. I remember shooting a few of them pre-2020, but now I’ll shoot maybe 6 or 7 a year. An-Sofie and Ryan chose Wi******er for their micro-wedding and it was an absolute peach.

Here’s a few points in favour of a smaller wedding.

⚡️You can truly tailor the plan to you (fancy the reception in your face pub? Do it!)
⚡️ Far less stress to plan and organise
⚡️ Let’s be honest, they’re friendly on the wallet.
⚡️ You don’t have to invite that annoying co-worker/uncle/cousin (sorry, we just don’t have the space!)
