Tour from the weekend!

The sun was shining and we had a glorious time in all our venues discussing the rich heritage of Leeds Beer Scene. Thanks to everyone who joined me!

There's no tour on Saturday this week but there's a couple of spaces left on Friday's tour if you're looking for something to do in Leeds!

I am very fond of a Fish Finger sandwich from Whitelock’s Ale House and the lunch options at Bruschetta by Food Cabaret are top notch.

Tour from the weekend!

This was a Craft Beer Tour where this lovely group learnt about the brewing process and different styles of beer in some of the best independent venues in Leeds.

This tour is being discontinued in August so if you want to book on (or have vouchers) do it quickly!

Last Saturday's Heritage Beer Tour as Leeds Beer Tours!

It was a soggy one but still a lot of fun with such a brilliant group.

Over the next week or so you will see some changes happening to Leeds Beer Tours, we are having a rebrand!

Whilst I love beer and it has helped start my Tour Experiences, history has always been my passion and I want to be able to incorporate more into the tours. Showing the best of Leeds, past and present, and not just about the beer!

Craft Beer Tour from the weekend!

Thanks to this wonderful group for joining me for this tour. Leeds was extremely busy but luckily we didn't lose anyone!

This Saturday I'm having the weekend off to go see the NFL. But the following week there are 2 places left on a Heritage Tour.

It's and as promised from last week here is more about Professor Dick.

This character appears in an article in the Leeds Times from 25th January 1851.

Professor Dick is appearing in court for stealing a hat from a waiter at Mr Long's, No. 2 Ludgate Hill. Seven weeks before his court appearance, he had been staying at Mr Longs and left with the wrong hat (!) and without paying his bill. Prof Dick explains he just forgot and he didn't mean any harm.

As the Judge is beginning to believe him, (we all make mistakes right?) the landlord of the Palace, Mr Hanson, steps forward and tells the judge that Prof. Dick has also stayed at his pub for several nights, made merry and left without paying the bill. Just as Mr Hanson is finishing his story, Mr Reynolds, the landlord of Nag's Head on Upper Headrow, comes forward and tells a similar story. Just as he is finishing several other landlords of various pubs, inns, and restaurants come forward and give similar stories of tabs not being paid.

Prof. Dick has been in Leeds for over 3 months, staying and eating at different places and racking up quite a bit of debt. He tells the judge that he will pay these businesses back as soon as he can but his business has not been going well in Leeds, so he currently has very little money.

The judge obviously realises that Prof. Dick is not the gentleman he says he is and off he goes to prison for 3 months!

What a chap!

It's and this week we are focussing on the Palace, Kirkgate.

The Palace has been a pub from around 1842.

It boasted of a extensive and superior kitchen, a capital and airy brewhouse and good stabling in an article advertising its sale in 1842.

As with all pubs it has been the focus of several articles regarding crimes during it's history. My favourites include:
🎱Theft of a Bagatelle Balls, what are they I hear you ask? Think snooker and pinball combined.
♣️ Card Sharks - basically a card trickster managed to persuade some poor man that he owed money from a bet. The man followed the card trickster managed to hold him until the police came and it cost the trickster a lot more than he earnt from this crimes (2 months in jail)
💰Defrauding by "Professor Dick" - this is a great story and needs a post by itself so come back next week!

We popped to @kirkstallbrewery owned @station_hop_morley yesterday. Tbh, we ended up there as it was the only place open at midday on a Thursday in January but we weren't disappointed.
