I had a brilliant morning at Woodhorn Museum for the event "What accessibility really means, ask the families."

Very insightful listening to the panel talk and useful to hear first hand experiences of the challenges faced by families when visiting venues.

I would be happy to pass on any notes if anyone is interested and the event was filmed so I shall share that as well once it's up.

What a lovely project 🤩

Pupils from Cambois Primary School have been working on the next stage of Cambois Hidden Depths, an exciting partnership between The Tute and November Club.

Working with writer, Hilary Elder, pupils in year 5/6 have been using items they found on an archeological dig with Barry Mead a couple of weeks ago, as a springboard for producing poetry and creative writing.

Pupils are working with various artists to explore the history of Cambois in creative ways. Their work will be featured as part of the final presentation on 27 and 28 September around Cambois and North Blyth.

More details to come!

It was a pleasure to chat to Esmé Weijun Wang, about her life as an award winning writer living in San Francisco. Esmé is one of our supporters of the Culture Northumberland project.

It is fascinating to find out how other people work isn't it? What their routines look like and I was especially excited to hear what 'a day in the life' for Esmé looked like.

⭐️What does accessible really mean? Ask the families ⭐️

This event is taking place at Woodhorn Museum on Thursday 20th June 10am - 12pm and is free to members of the North East Family Arts Network and Northumberland-based culture sector staff and creatives.

More info below plus the link to book your place 👇

This event is for staff from cultural organisations and creatives to discover the reality of the lived experience for families with additional needs who are using their cultural offer.

A family panel consisting of people with a variety of disabilities and/or their carers will share what the whole journey of accessing cultural buildings and events is really like, from finding out about the event, planning the visit, then attending on the day.

There will be ‘ask anything’ opportunities where the family panel can answer any questions you may have about how your organisation specifically can best cater for their needs. The event will be informal but informative.
