The book will be a complete History of I Battery, 7 para RHA dating back to 1805 when the Troop was raised at Colchester as part of the corps d’elite being sent to fight the French in Europe. The Battery history has been a continuous one, which has far outlasted many other batteries due to its record for bravery and professionalism in service. It will chart the development of Bull’s Troop through
the glory days of the Peninsular Wars and its courageous defence at Fuentes D’Onoro (commemorated annually on the 5th May and known as Driver’s Day), the lesser-known foreign tours of the late 1800’s leading up to the World Wars and finally the beginning of the airborne era in 1961, when I Battery (alongside F and G) broke away from their tradition role of cavalry support to become a Parachute Artillery. The latter part of the book looks at more modern conflicts starting with a focus on the Middle East, then Ulster, the Falklands and Cyprus, taking the reader up to the most recognised names; Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and finally Afghanistan.
