Foodbank to extend delivery of financial inclusion project in collaboration with Citizens Advice

A local foodbank is celebrating the success of a financial inclusion project by seeing the number of service users reduce.
Corby Foodbank, part of Trussell, introduced the initiative in 2022 in collaboration with Citizen’s Advice as a way of helping people tackle the issues that may lead to them needing to use the foodbank service. This included finding ways to reduce their outgoings or increase their income through advice and knowledge-based signposting.

The project has been a massive success. After previously seeing an exponential rise in the number of Corby foodbank clients year-on-year, the financial inclusion project has seen numbers reduce significantly. In the last year alone, the number of clients using Corby Foodbank has gone from 3,500 clients in 2023 to just below 3,000 in 2024.

The project has been fully funded by Trussell, with the organisation purchasing hours of time from Citizen’s Advice, which allows for a dedicated advisor to host an in-person clinic at all foodbank sessions.

However, in July, the current partnership with Trussell will end, and its funding will drop from 100 per cent to 50 per cent.
Now, the foodbank is hoping to secure more investment to fill that 50 per cent shortfall, so that the financial inclusion project can continue.

Mary Collier, Financial Inclusion Manager for Trussell, said: “Foodbanks do such an incredible job in supporting people, but our vision is to see the UK not needing them. One of the only ways we can do that is by people having access to mainstream support. Already we’ve seen huge changes, it’s really made a big impact for people.

“The work that Citizen’s Advice does helps to maximise people’s income and help with their debt management. It’s so important that this relationship continues between all parties, including the people seeking support, because they build such valuable relationships with the advisors.”

Martin Langford, Corby Foodbank manager, said: “The financial inclusion project has directly resulted in a decrease in the number of people using our foodbank. This is after exponential rises year-on-year before its implementation.

“Projects like this have been funded by Trussell in other parts of the UK too and we are seeing the same trend nationally. The results speak for themselves.

“We know working with Citizen’s Advice is driving down numbers and tackling the cause of food poverty. This service is so integral to what we do now that I can’t imagine not providing it. In an ideal world, I would love to secure the services of Citizen’s Advice for another three years. To do that we need to fill that funding gap.”
If you are an organisation who could help Corby Foodbank by funding the continuation of the Financial Inclusion Project with Citizen’s Advice, email [email protected].

ArtFULL project in full swing

Made With Many are working on a new action research project full of curiosity, wonder and creativity with the internationally renowned Pen Green Centre in Corby and dance company Turned On Its Head.

ArtFULL is enabling young children to explore a myriad of exciting creative experiences, made possible with generous funding from Arts Council England, thanks to money raised by National Lottery players.

The project creates an exchange of ideas and practice between staff at the Pen Green Centre and artists; making work that is wholehearted and full bodied, through participation and performance, where all involved are immersed in experiencing how creative practice strengthens intergenerational relationships. ArtFULL also explores the notions of co-design alongside a panel of early years experts - the children themselves!

Vicky Frayard Co-Director at Made With Many commented, “We are delighted to once again be partnering with Pen Green Centre and Liz Clark from Turned On Its Head for our most ambitious early years project to date that will explore how creativity supports connection, communication and relationships”.

Two artists are currently embedded in Pen Green, Sophie Cullinan and Mike Payton, integrating into the everyday practice of the centre and working alongside both staff and mentor Liz Clark, Artistic Director for Turned On Its Head. Sophie and Mike have been attending meetings, facilitating workshops, creating engaging provocations and spontaneous happenings with the children and staff, subsequently reflecting on the creative interventions that they have been making.

Northants-based visual artist Sophie Cullinan has previously worked with Made With Many, inspiring community members to make their own inflatable sculptures, as well as creating a recycled sculpture with local school children for Grow Festival.
Whilst Storyteller Mike Payton, delighted audiences at last year’s Family Arts Festival with stories he discovered while visiting nurseries across Corby, including Squirrels Day Nursery, Kingswood Children's Centre and Pen Green Centre.

Felicity Dewsbery, Deputy Head of Centre at Pen Green added, “This action research project aims to explore what impact can we have on children, families and communities by embedding artists and specialists in an early years setting for one year. The research will be evaluated through reflexive thematic analysis by Pen Green’s Research Centre, and results shared widely through early years networks.”

If you’re interested in finding out more about the artists working on this project please visit https://madewithmany.org and read our Meet The Artist blogs.

JOIN CRANSLEY HOSPICE TRUST IN HONOURING YOUR LOVED ONES AS ‘WE REMEMBER’

Cransley Hospice Trust are incredibly proud to be able to offer a unique and poignant in-memory installation, ‘We Remember;’ an emotive display of beautiful oak pillars featuring the names and memories of our loved ones at two stunning locations, East Carlton Countryside Park and the Chester House Estate.

The charity are inviting their supporters and members of the community to honour their loved ones by leaving their name or a cherished memory of them on one of these powerful memorials.
It can be hard to find somewhere that we can go to truly connect and remember the memories we shared with our loved ones, particularly if they don’t have a traditional grave or a favourite place where you can visit to reminisce. ‘We Remember’ gives you a special place to gather with family and friends, to reflect together while you enjoy a picnic or a walk in glorious surroundings.

Your loved one does not have to have received care from Cransley Hospice to be included on this memorial.
There are four different options available; small or large plaques, and for a time period of one or three years. You will also be able to select whether you would like your plaque on the installation at East Carlton Countryside Park or at Chester House Estate.
By purchasing your plaque today you will also help to fund the development of local hospice care and services in North Northamptonshire ... Because every moment matters.

Louise Gurney, Data & Individual Giving Manager at Cransley Hospice Trust commented:
“We are incredibly excited to be able to offer this unique in-memory opportunity for people to have a physical place to reminisce about their loved ones. ‘We Remember’ is such an uplifting and heartfelt way to honour someone missing from your life – and all while supporting local hospice and end of life care in our community.

“We are incredibly grateful to the teams at East Carlton Countryside Park and the Chester House Estate for sharing our vision and enthusiasm for these beautiful memorial pieces. We hope that they will bring a lot of comfort to local people”.

Each installation will have a special unveiling ceremony, held on Saturday 26th April at East Carlton Countryside Park and Sunday 18th May at Chester House Estate. These services will feature music, readings and the sharing of memories, giving our community a chance to come together and support each other as ‘We Remember’ our loved ones.

Cransley Hospice Trust are encouraging people to order their plaques promptly, as numbers are limited by the space available on the installations. In order to ensure the dedication plaques are sensitively installed prior to the unveiling, plaques need to be purchased no later than the 31st March 2025.

Further information about the options available can be found on the charity’s website at www.cransleyhospicetrust.org.uk/we-remember-2025 where you can also purchase your plaque.
