ity-driven blue-chip companies. After many years, we are now a well-established, family-run company. Tom's wife Shirley, daughter Katie and two sons Chris and Peter, all now have varying input into the business and bring with them their core family values to the everyday running of the company. Tom is also one of the founding members of the UK Lawncare Association and TopGrass continues to play a big part in this association to date. Tom was appointed as Vice Chairman for the Association in 2020 and continues to hold this position. TopGrass is also a proud member of the SME Climate Hub, a global initiative that empowers small to medium sized companies to take climate action and build more resilient businesses. Through the SME Climate Hub, we commit to lowering our impact on the environment through authentic action, halving our emissions by 2030. In making the commitment, we have joined the United Nations Race to Zero campaign.

December is a funny old time of year for lawn care. Your grass still needs attention - the plants are very much alive and even if you're not seeing much growth above ground, the roots will still be growing and interacting with the soil. The gardener's job at this time of year is to protect the lawn as much as possible and to help the plants prepare for spring.

Mowing: If the weather is mild and the sward keeps growing, it's OK to mow. But please don't scalp the lawn. It's enough to just cut the tips off the grass blades to keep the lawn looking neat.

Continue to remove any fallen leaves.

An iron treatment applied in December will help to 'harden' the grass so that it's more resiliant to frost. Iron is also a great weapon in the fight against moss.

If you're not using your mower much, why not book it in for a service so that it runs like a dream next season?

Have you planned your 2025 lawn care regime yet? Give it some thought throughout December and contact your local lawn care professional to discuss renovations and treatments. If you'll need any new tools or equipment, make a wish list and look out for bargains in the January sales.
