Chris Collins, presently leading the The Limosa-Wildwings Svalbard (Spitzbergen) Cruise, reports that the group saw a Bowhead Whale two days ago in the pack ice (photo Chris Collins, from a previous trip). This was one of the main targets for the trip, so nice to see so early in the adventure.

Limosa owner and guide Chris Collins is again leading this years cruise around Spitsbergen (Svalbard), which has just set out from Longyearbyen. The focus of this eight day cruise is to search for wildlife along the edge of the Arctic sea ice, where clients should get good views of Polar Bears and Bowhead Whales, along with birds such as Little Auk and Brunnich's Guillemot at their huge colonies. We will keep you updated with what the group sees this year (photo Chris Collins).

One of the pleasures of an Amazonian cruise is the regular opportunity to get good views of what must be one of the Amazon's most memorable birds, the stunning Long-billed Woodcreeper. This picture was taken by Chris Collins on the recent Brazilian Amazon cruise run by Limosa and Wildwings.

According to the local community, this Nocturnal Curassow was found alone as a small chick and was taken in as a pet. This is a very hard bird to see anywhere, so the opportunity to see one, even if not wild, was greatly appreciated by participants of the recently completed Brazilian Amazon cruise run jointly by Limosa and Wildwings (photo Chris Collins).

Limosa guide Frank Lambert has just returned from a very successful trip into the Meratus Mountains of South Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo, where he and John Howes were successful in finding all the recently described new species. Frank reports that, after a very arduous two-day trek into the mountains, they camped for six nights with rain daily. Nevertheless, they obtained good views of the species they were searching for, as well as other endemic montane birds, such as this impressive Bornean Shade-dweller (Vauriella gularis), which can be hard to find in more regularly visited montane sites (photo Frank Lambert).

This years 'Primates and Parrots Wildlife Cruise' has just finished, and Chris Collins sent us this interesting snippet: "Occasionally, toucans get drunk on fermented fruit and end up crashing into the river and drowning. We spotted this one struggling in the water and went and fished it out. After leaving it in a laundry basket to dry out and sober up for a couple of hours, it was able to fly off strongly. A happy ending to our very successful Cruise in the Brazilian Amazon!"

Limosa and WildWings become Global Birdfair main sponsors.

Our funding will allow ten small NGOs to attend the Birdfair when otherwise their limited funds would prevent them from being there.
