Folkboat

Folkboat Folkboat runs a programme of Traditional sailing vessel trips interspersed with acoustic music workshops and sessions run by Musician Phil Beer.

After realising a long held ambition to take part in a major sailing expedition, Phil Beer joined the Gaff Pilot Cutter 'Pegasus' in 2009 to do the Tall Ships race in the Baltic. His fellow band members from 'Show of Hands' granted him the 9 weeks away from the usual summer music festival activities and Phil enjoyed a life changing experience racing in the Baltic and being in the winning crew of r

ace 2 under the expert instruction of Skipper Diggory Rose and Mate Amy Ferguson. This experience re-kindled his appetite for sailing which had remained dormant since school days. The following year, Pegasus was chartered by Mac and Nikki Hampson of Sheply Folk Festival. This was a pleasure cruise which Phil joined and which involved a lot of singing and music. This trip sowed the seeds of an idea which Phil developed into the folkboat activity together with Skipper Diggory Rose who coined the name. This last summer of 2014 has been occupied with eight such trips on both Pegasus and Tectona. Some 90 people have enjoyed a series of one week cruises on board and have contributed to the success of a unique new holiday activity which will be repeated next year.
