Well to say I was amazed is an under statement. We have recently returned from a Uniworld river cruise in France sailing from Bordeaux along the Dordogne. The food and service was unbelievable - so so good. The whole experience was and felt so luxurious. All excursions, all food and all drinks were included as well as free wifi. There was a choice of excursions including cycling ones for the more energetic. We had entertainment 3 nights and each night was really good. The scenery through the wine regions of Bordeaux was beautiful . Lots of Chateaux, vineyards and beautiful old French towns on the river. What was also really good was how easy and simple it was to get into France if double jabbed . Didn’t even need to do a passenger locator form to get in the country. Also the best news is there is no better time to do a river cruise as up to 50% off select sailings between now and end of October and also some with no single supplement. Just another Covid tip today for travellers going abroad - please make sure your Covid pass is in the same name as your passport - the two MUST match - your Christian name as well as your Surname , so no shortened versions.

If you are travelling abroad and need to show evidence of your COVID jabs I would recommend you apply on line for a paper version or print the one with the QR codes off your NHS app. Lots of customers have come unstuck today with the NHS app being down for several hours. The paper version which comes in the post has no expiry date. It takes about 5 days from application . The ones on your NHS app do have an expiry date so you have to keep logging in to extend the validity. Just google NHS COVID pass letter and the site comes up for you to apply for the paper version.

A big shout out to all my customers who have had their holiday cancelled due to Coronavirus. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding at this crazy time. Most of my customers, where they can , have rebooked for next year. They have all said the same thing - we need something to look forward to . We as a team at Travel Counsellors have worked together to get our customers home who were stranded abroad when borders were closed and flights were cancelled. We have tried our hardest to keep up to speed with all the Foreign office and airline and government updates and shared with our customers everything we know. We will , as a team continue to do this until this nightmare ends. If anyone still thinks that the role of a Travel Agent is no longer needed then they obviously haven’t met the absolutely amazing team that is Travel Counsellors.

Did you see the Jane Macdonald cruise show on Friday ? She was Oceania Marina . I have been on this ship and her sister ship the Riviera and I was blown away by the standard of service, food, quality of cabins, choice of ports of call - absolutely stunning - loved it. Having now done over 54 cruises I can honestly say this one we did was one of the best ever. Recently went on holiday and stayed at this beautiful 4 star hotel just outside Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote. It was absolutely stunning . The food was buffet style and you could eat inside the restaurant or outside overlooking the gardens. Lots of food stations with freshly cooked meat and fish . The food here was like a cruise ship buffet. Very impressed. You can choose half board or all inclusive . The entertainment was also really good. Show every night in one lounge and solo singer or musician in the other lounge. Bus stop outside hotel so easy to get out and about quite cheaply . Whole area all flat with promenade running adjacent to the lovely sandy beach . Great for families and couples. Email me for more info and prices.

On the third day of our river cruise we docked in Ragensburg, beautiful city in Germany right on the Danube . If you don't want to self drive or do an organised coach trip a river cruise is a real luxury way of seeing places that Ocean cruises can't get to .

You will have seen my post regarding Celebrity Edge over the last three days whilst i was lucky enough to be on the ship. Just thought i would share a photo of the Magic Carpet. This idea originally game about as a lift area on the outside of the ship to get guests on an off the tenders quicker. It has now been developed in to a speciality restaurant that moves on the outside of the ship between decks. So on pool deck during the day with a casual menu and deck 5 in the evening with a different menu. just stunning.

Celebrity Edge infinite balcony cabin - amazing. The whole balcony is part of the cabin. You have glass doors that fold back or you can close off the balcony if you prefer . The top glass area pulls down to create the open space. Similar to cabins on river cruises.

If someone said where are the best all inclusive hotels in the world the response you would always get is Maldives, Mauritius and Mexico. So it is amazing to see the Ikos hotels in Greece have now got the number 1 and 2 spot of the top all inclusive resorts rated by trip advisor - I book them regularly for my customers - The Ikos Olivia and Ikos Oceania in Halkidiki are just outstanding and by far the best European all inclusive concept. Our second day on our South America cruise was in Montevideo in Uraguay. What a surprise . Horrible container port on arrival gives you totally the wrong impression of a place. Tourists from Argentina go to Uraguay as they have better beaches. Did you know Uraguay have won more international football tournaments than Brazil or Argentina ? They got a lot of pleasure telling us this . Two sunset photos at the end taken from our balcony at the back of the ship.
