Thank you to .co for a very warm welcome. We loved the ethos of this social enterprise - putting the profits back into the local community through educational programmes as well as supporting small local businesses. Apart from a strong social sustainability angle the hotel is following the principles of environmental sustainability in their design and operations - reducing, reusing and recycling, as well as supporting local green suppliers

Happy Samhain - the ancient Celtic festival behind Halloween 🎃 👻

🔥 For Pre-Christian Celts Samhain marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark cold winter. The festival also symbolised the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Ancient Celts believed that on the night of 31st October, ghosts of their dead would revisit the mortal world and large bonfires were lit in each village in order to ward off any evil spirits that may also be at large. Celtic priests, known as Druids, would have led the Samhain celebrations. Druids also ensured that the hearth fire of each house was re-lit from the glowing embers of the sacred bonfire, in order to help protect the people and keep them warm through the forthcoming long, dark winter months.

✞ Along with the Christians in the 5th century AD arrived the Christian Festivals and amongst them “All Hallows’ Day”, also known as “All Saints Day”, a day to remember those who had died for their beliefs. Originally celebrated on 13th May, it was later moved to 1st November in the 8th century, to replace or assimilate the Celtic Samhain festival of the dead with a related but church approved celebration. The night or evening of Samhain therefore became known as All-hallows-even then Hallow Eve, still later Hallowe’en and then of course Halloween. A special time of the year when many believe that the spirit world can make contact with the physical world, a night when magic is at its most potent.

🎃 Throughout Britain, Halloween has traditionally been celebrated by children’s games such as bobbing for apples in containers full of water, telling ghost stories and the carving of faces into hollowed-out vegetables such as swedes and turnips. These faces would usually be illuminated from within by a candle, the lanterns displayed on window sills to ward off any evil spirits. The current use of pumpkins is a relatively modern innovation imported from the United States, as well as the “trick-or-treat” tradition!

🎉 After 2 cancelled years due to Covid-19, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is back in 2022 and will take place from 5th until 27th August!

🥁 The Tattoo is an iconic Edinburgh event and a spectacular display of music, dance and military bands precision skills, set against the magnificent backdrop of the ancient Edinburgh castle

Did you know that? 👇

🍺 The word 'tattoo' comes from the early 17th-century Dutch phrase ‘doe den tap toe’, meaning ‘turn off the tap’. Drummers or trumpeters sounded this signal to tell innkeepers near military garrisons to stop serving beer so that soldiers would return to their barracks

👑 The event has been running since 1950 and was given the Royal title by Her Majesty the Queen in 2010 to honour its 60th birthday

🥳 The sounds of the pipes, drums and Highland dancing can be heard throughout the city, combined with the stamping and clapping of the audiences, and finally glorious fireworks

🌍 The Tattoo celebrates musicians and performers from all over the world and donates a large share of profits to various charities

💫 Every year the theme of the event is different - some of the past themes were Scotland’s homecoming, creativity and nature. This year's theme is Voices - celebrating connections across cultures and languages

Ahead of Earth Day happening this week we would like to talk about well-being: one of our goals linked to sustainability 🌱

We believe that slow adventures in our destinations really boost well-being, as they allow our guests to switch off from their everyday stress and to enjoy mindful connection to the landscape and culture around them, as well as their true self 💫

Slow observation and lingering in one place vs hopping on and off the coach opens up our eyes to authentic and memorable experiences. And it also reduces carbon emissions, so all in all positive impact! 🤩

Triple Bottom Line approach to sustainability - good for the Planet, People and Prosperity. Today we will talk about the third 'P' for Prosperity.

What does it mean when we aim to have a positive impact on Prosperity through our travel programmes and events? 👇

We support networks of local enterprises in our destinations - for example Burren Ecotourism Network in Ireland Visit the Burren.

By connecting our customers with such enterprises we contribute to the positive social and economic impact within local communities, as well as raise awareness about them on international level. And for our customers this guarantees authentic cultural experiences. Win-win! 🤩

Check out our gallery of Burren experiences and contact us via link on bio or message us if you have any questions.

by Hubbub charity is one of the great community initiatives we like to support through our events 👇

This is not another food bank. The charity promotes meaningful surplus food donations across the UK, which are then used during community cookery workshops, for example. So we are able to avoid food waste, connect event participants with local communities and contribute to new skills development for all the stakeholders 🤩

The above is a good example of Triple Bottom Line approach to sustainability we aim to follow for our bespoke travel and events - good for the planet, people and prosperity ☘️
