The weather in Romania has been extremely warm this week, hotter than your usual places - Portugal, Spain, Greece.
An alternative to a beach holiday, the facilities in the hotels and the surrounding areas of things to do, are extremely great value for all the family.
A mountain holiday in a different season is a great alternative to still capture the sunshine, the mountains air and interactions with nature are great. My mind feels open and I’m loving the views.
I’ve wanted to come here for a long time….
Something has bitten me in Transylvania…..and an ankle bite is an unusual place too.:….and I spoke to a local and they said everything is just fables and stories……but I feel hypnotised……..I feel like in have super powers now …… so I’m expecting to wake up with amazing hair and be absolutely glowing 😉 and it’s a full moon tomorrow….
…….and I’m finally sure I met a vampire……slightly sparkling in the sunset light, super dark eyes, no tan, extremely well travelled, spoken multiple languages, has lived abroad in many places….very charming, but he wore a cross and he said he would protect the UK travel agents 😀 so no one fear!
I feel super happy…but I think amazing magical things will happen tomorrow…..my language skills have already improved and everything is just…….🧛♀️

Finally got my pizza 🍕 it was fabulouso 🤤 only cost €13 with wine 🍷 now for a little sunshine on the balcony
I’m exhausted…..what a day to be proud of myself.
After the endless battery of queues for the chairlift…..everything looked better from the top of the mountain…..until I turned around and realised I now had to get down ⛷️🫶🏽🫣🌲🧡
I made it. Took a long time.
My first official piste, Sagnes at starts at 2455m up there mountain. You have to take a chairlift/gondola from Chalmettes. Then go down and round a ski road - Crete. They join a connecting chairlift to go even higher.
Simply stunning but all I can see are steep slopes and snow everywhere. How am I going to do this? 🤔 all the practice and training just seemed to fall out of my head. I’ve never pushed myself this hard before. I didn’t want to injury myself or fall…so I walked a little of the steepest part - which had to be a Red Run, as it’s the top. So many people to contend with too, all whizzing past, hard to see the way down.
Eventually it wasn’t skiing on such a decline and opened out to wide trails that were in the bowl, so you could see the Mountains.
Gentle turns to get down. Then it started to speed up just at you get to the end, it tails off quite steeply and as it’s where there is a restaurant and a chairlift - super busy too…..but then straight off onto the next run Lac. Beautiful narrow track with a cliff off the edge 😳🫣⛷️ just staying on the side with the snow but gently down….the last part was scary to me.
Skiing is totally out of my comfort zone, and I have no interest in taking risks, which is why I take it slow. I know a huge part of it is mindset and belief and visualisation, I think play a part. Plus you don’t really have a choice - the chairlifts we all one way today!!! It’s a lot of fun. I do enjoy pushing myself and this trip, I’ve skied more than I’ve ever done. So that’s a great thing, to be logging the time 🧡

The calm before the other passengers board - the usual drama of overheard conversations : Where am I sitting? There isn’t enough overhead space. It doesn’t feel like Christmas. Nanny, I don’t want to sit by you (that was a classic)
I’m excited for this last holiday of the year. I’m more than happy to trial out any types of trips for my lovely clients.
Hopefully my ski skills and confidence have improved greatly and I’ll be parallel skiing by the end of the trip, with the greatest of ease.

Day 3 :
The last full day of this educational to The Gambia, after breakfast did include an early start to be able to take part in a full day 6 in 1 excursion experience.
This tour showcases some of the main life and cultural highlights, this amazing winter sun destination has to offer, including a visit to a local school, Serrekunda market, Kachikally Crocodile pool and the Tangi Fishing Village.
After a short museum tour to get some history about Gambia, you can visit the privately owned crocodile pool, home to approximately 80 crocs. Known for its healing properties especially around fertility, but I didn’t see anyone venture into the pool.
A walk through Serrekunda Local Market was like a step back in time. It’s the largest one in Gambia, with everything on sale. Photobombed by local children, it just showed how friendly people are 😀🧡
The trip to Jambanjelly School was all too humbling. This school teaches 1350 pupils, across all ages. The classrooms are jam packed. Children were 2 to a table and their structures are simple. They are so happy to be at school and be with their friends. The Head Master was gracious enough to tell us that their biggest issue is having enough clean water to get through the day, and enough food to feed all the children. Hopefully some of the donations we gave, the children and school can enjoy.
Then a visit to Ida’s. Her cooking school yabouy home cooking has been expanding over the years, providing a glimpse into home cooking and local culture. Greeted with an amazing hug and welcome, Ida teaches from her own home and the Yabouy Charity also helps give back to the community and local women too, through local initiatives and micro-financing.
The day ended with another opportunity for some spectacular bird watching - seeing kingfishers, red billed hornbills, hooded vultures, African darters, cormorant, herons, just to name a few. You can do this either with a guide navigating or kayaks.
Then back for dinner and endless talks about the day.
After a quick trip to the No1 Lounge at Gatwick for breakfast before the easy 6hour flight, it was great to be able to experience the Star Class service onboard.
Arriving into The Gambia and seeing the landscape change from desert to lush green, the initial heat was a bit of a shock - in December it was scorching!
The buzz of the lively people in the airport and the big welcome from Lamin and Lillian from The Gambia Experience for the private transfer to the hotel was just perfect.
Settling into the African Princess Beach Hotel, this simple 4-star hotel offers an attractive design with quality service and amenities, and some contemporary and is located on a beautiful stretch of golden beach in South Kotu. Due to the arrival time, the first sunset of any trip is always a good and watching the sun descend into the ocean, is alway magical, followed by the golden hour glow.

Day 3 : The last full day of this educational to The Gambia, after breakfast did include an early start to be able to take part in a full day 6 in 1 excursion experience. This tour showcases some of the main life and cultural highlights, this amazing winter sun destination has to offer, including a visit to a local school, Serrekunda market, Kachikally Crocodile pool and the Tangi Fishing Village. After a short museum tour to get some history about Gambia, you can visit the privately owned crocodile pool, home to approximately 80 crocs. Known for its healing properties especially around fertility, but I didn’t see anyone venture into the pool. A walk through Serrekunda Local Market was like a step back in time. It’s the largest one in Gambia, with everything on sale. Photobombed by local children, it just showed how friendly people are 😀🧡 The trip to Jambanjelly School was all too humbling. This school teaches 1350 pupils, across all ages. The classrooms are jam packed. Children were 2 to a table and their structures are simple. They are so happy to be at school and be with their friends. The Head Master was gracious enough to tell us that their biggest issue is having enough clean water to get through the day, and enough food to feed all the children. Hopefully some of the donations we gave, the children and school can enjoy. Then a visit to Ida’s. Her cooking school yabouy home cooking has been expanding over the years, providing a glimpse into home cooking and local culture. Greeted with an amazing hug and welcome, Ida teaches from her own home and the Yabouy Charity also helps give back to the community and local women too, through local initiatives and micro-financing. The day ended with another opportunity for some spectacular bird watching - seeing kingfishers, red billed hornbills, hooded vultures, African darters, cormorant, herons, just to name a few. Diwali is celebrated to mark the day Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, after defeating Ravana. The people of Ayodhya were very happy and lighted diyas all over the town to welcome them back home. Since then, Diwali has been celebrated with the same spirit. It marks the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. Look at this incredible room I’ve been given. It’s absolutely huge. When you check in, you are given a lovely bracelet, which is also your room key - I love this idea. You can be free and never have to worry about getting locked out. The room layout for most of the categories is the same, you might have some extra services available. The LURE SWIM UP TROPICAL VIEW has to be my favourite. Going for a morning swim….bliss…. The bed is very comfortable and the blackout curtains really do work. The storage is perfect and there was plenty of space with a great mix of drawers and hanging space, more than enough for a week or two’s stay. Also included in this suite is Free 24hr in-room dining, pool & beach concierge service. My butler Daniel was brilliant. We kept in contact by WhatsApp - he would assist me to plan my day, confirm any dining reservations I needed and sometimes he would find me in the day and just check in. I’d contacted the airline to ensure the special assistance was available, the hotel to make sure there was a wheelchair to be able to use. They were celebrating a special 70th birthday, so the hotel arranged a cake and due to some dietary wants they made them some special meals too! This hotel ticked all the boxes, in terms of location, luxury and comfort, quality of the service and the food and facilities and it has lots of hidden delights too.
