Our last morning in Lapland - Day 5.

A few had booked in an extra excursion and there was also the option of relaxing around the hotel for the morning.

However 24 of us managed to get on an extra trip to The Ice Castle Pulled by snowmobilles we headed off in 3 sledges for our final outing.

The Ice Castle is where families come to when visiting Santa here in Lapland on a day trip throughout December. Here they get to meet reindeer, huskies, have a lovely meal and, of course, meet Santa 🎅

It was a magical trip which we were all happy we had booked in at the last minute and an awesome way to end our adventure.

Back to the hotel for lunch before heading back to the airport 🛫

We have come to the end of our wonderful holiday and I wanted to say thank you to all the wonderful guests that came along with me and the others we met at Jussantupa Hotel. A memorable few days indeed.

Day 4 - I think!!! If you like keeping busy on holiday then this would certainly suit you.

This morning we headed off to the Reindeer Camp for a saunter round the frozen river which was absolutely beautiful.

This was followed by a talk with our local guide in a nice warm teepee and includes toasting a sausage over the campfire lol ....... no it wasn't reindeer!!

Back to the hotel and after lunch my daughter and I decided to take on an extra excursion with 4 others, none of which had ever ski'd before!!

We spent a couple of hours attempting to cross country skiing which was a great experience and glad we tried it. Legs are gonna be aching in the morning tho 🏂

A quick sauna session before dinner and a nice relaxed evening in the bar socialising.

Day 3 took us to the Hetta Husky Farm for a sledding experience. After a talk from our guide showing us how much is involved in the day to day looking after the 203 + huskies everyone took it in turns driving and being a passenger. Everyone seemed to enjoy it which was fab.

After lunch some of the group headed off on an extra excursion ice fishing and came back buzzing having had an amazing time, even though no fish were caught!!!!

We decided to listen to the inner child and went tobogganing and make snow angels which was great fun.

The day rounded off with a trip out for our Snowmobiling Adventure. Great fun had by all😁

It's been a busy day all round and still more to come tomorrow.

Day 2 in Hetta. Don't forget it's still dark in the morning. Today we started at 9am and walked just out of the hotel to the frozen lake area in the dark for our snowshoeing experience. Daylight I believe was around 9.45 although a very foggy day today with persistent snowfall.

Snowshoeing is one of the most strenuous activities on this trip in that you are moving and it keeps you warm and you can certainly feel it in your legs but great fun. We stopped for a while in the forest and sat in the snow for a drink of Glogi, the Finnish version of mulled wine made from wild fruits, and a few local stories from our guides including why reindeers fly🤔

It seemed to be settled around -1 today which was absolutely fine.

Still snowing we made our way back to the hotel for a time to relax with a cuppa (and for me a little bit of work time!!).

After lunch we decided to take a walk to the Visitors Centre up the road. Around a 25 min walk through the snow but on the one main road so we couldnt get lost!!!

Once back at the hotel it was already dark again and that was around 4pm!!!

Over 13,000 steps for me today!!!!!

Guests can make use of a sauna and plunge pool at Jussantupa Hotel, and there is also a nice bar area and sofa areas to sit and read, relax and chat.

After dinner we got ourselves into our thermal suits once more and our next excursion was another walk to the lake for our Arctic trek. Luckily it wasn't too far. We trekked to the centre of the frozen lake and enjoyed more Grogi around a firepit where our guides told us more about the Sami people and the area.

A short walk back to the hotel for some lovely hot chocolate to finish off the day😁

So we haven't seen the Northern Lights yet but we did see this.

This is a phenomenon which can be seen only over a two week period and Is referred to as Mother of Pearl and Oil Spill. A polar stratospheric cloud which is rarer than the Northern Lights.

Day 1 started with a 10am flight for our group of 15 from Exeter Airport to Enontekio Airport. Great flight landing at 4.10pm (2.10 in UK) and it was dark already!! Only around 5 hours daylight here at the moment.

Checked in after a stop to all get our thermal suits and boots fitted. Hotel lovely - and warm😁

After dinner and a welcome meeting we decided to take a stroll to see if there was any sign of the Northern Lights. Nothing to be seen, apart from the beautiful snowy scenery, so headed back to the hotel for a hot chocolate.

The Aurora app was teasing us saying it was directly above us so we donned our suits again and headed out to the frozen lake to take a peek!!

Sadly just a bit too much cloud for us to see the lights but a refreshing stroll nevertheless. Tonight was actually the strongest chance of us seeing them so won't dwell on that too much as it doesn't take anything away from the beauty around us.

Looking forward to more adventures tomorrow with snowshoeing and an Arctic trek 🥶
