Today the new Lowry and the Sea Exhibition opens at the Maltings Gallery in Berwick upon Tweed.

My colleage Tess and I were involved with training the guides who will be telling the story of Lowry and the Sea and the artist's love of Berwick through 20-minute tours at 12.30 every day (Wednesday - Sunday).

And the new guides are looking forward to guiding their first visitors to the exhibition, which launches on 25th May

Today is World Heritage Day

I'm very fortunate as a Blue Badge Tourist Guide to share some of the UNESCO World Heritage sites with visitors from around the globe.

The Forth Bridge was described by UNESCO as a masterpiece of human creative genius and an aesthetic triumph of tremendous grace, despite its solid construction and lack of any decoration.

Happy to be celebrating by giving a guided tour to a lovely group from Rochdale area today. We drove through Newcastle and along the coast to Tynemouth- in the sunshine!

The picture shows me at Tynemouth also in the sunshine a few years ago, on one of the first training days for our new group of Blue Badge Guides- I am happy to say that all of the guides were successfully accredited by the and are now leading tours throughout the North East of England

English Tourism Week is a Visit England initiative to celebrate our diverse and exciting tourism industry.

I am looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world in 2024.

I'm very proud to work as a Blue Badge Tourist Guide in the North of England and Scotland- here I am on Hadrian's wall - never the border between the two nations!

Come on a guided tour and find out the real story!

Blue Badge Guides on a day off- today we followed ' Cuddy's Corse' the pilgrim route from Chester le Street to Durham, symbolic of the journey taken by the monks carrying the coffin of St Cuthbert over a thousand years ago.

The Forth Bridge celebrated its 134th birthday last week.

Did you know that the first train driven over the bridge was driven by a woman, Candida Louise Hay the Marchioness of Tweedale.
That was on 24th January, several weeks before the official opening by Prince of Wales on 4th March 1890.

Today, on International Tourist Guide Day, guides from both England and Scotland organised a litter pick and clear up at the border crossing.

Tourists and visitors from all over the world stop here for a photo at the famous flags.

This area was looking a bit untidy - about 20 bags of assorted rubbish were collected and now the area is clean and tidy again.

Some of this was wind blown but so much had been deliberately dumped.

But we have left it in a better condition so visitors are welcomed with pride 😀

Thanks to Darren and Ronnie from Scottish Borders Council who took it all away !

The Angel of the North sits on a hill overlooking the Team Valley  in Gateshead
The Angel was erected in February 1998 , and is visible from both the main A1 trunk road and the east coast main line making it one of the most publicly viewed  works of art, seen by millions of motorists every year.
Designed by Sir Antony Gormley, the Angel has become one of the most recognisable landmarks in the North of England.
