My First Flight of 2025 โ A Personal Journey and from tomorrow Iโm back in the office!
My first flight this year on 3rd January wasnโt for work, but for something far more personal โ heading back to Northern Ireland to support my dad through his radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is something that touches so many families, including my own. Jonathan was diagnosed in 2017 (thankfully still on a watching brief), and weโve had countless friends affected too. While many have been successfully treated, weโve sadly lost a close friend to this disease.
Here are some stats to consider:
โข Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK.
โข 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with it during their lifetime.
โข If caught early, survival rates are significantly higher.
My message to men aged 40+: Get tested.
A simple blood test (PSA test) could save your life, even if you have no symptoms. Jonathan had no symptoms at all when he was diagnosed, which is why routine checks are so important.
Sitting at the City Hospital day after day became a way of life. We became a family, united by cancer, sharing stories and supporting one another. The love and emotion in the air were overwhelming, especially when a patient rang the bell.
For those unfamiliar, ringing the bell signifies the end of radiotherapy โ a huge milestone. On some days, we heard up to five bells; other days, none at all. But every single ring stopped conversations and brought cheers, claps, and tears of joy.
For many patients, ringing the bell is just one phase of their treatment. But in that moment, itโs a triumph worth celebrating. Iโll admit, I cried every time.
The staff were simply incredible, and a special shoutout to Keith, the volunteer who kept spirits high with his acoustic music from under the stairs. Your kindness and care made a difference.

First stop? Marari Beach. Let me tell you, this place has it allโpristine sands, swaying palm trees, and the kind of peace that makes you forget the world exists. Think paradise but without the crowds! ๐๏ธ
