Our Story
This is all about The Cobbles on Baileys Lane - a place in St Ives where you can spend a holiday all year round. If you want to contact me about it you can send me a message to the FB page or call me, Judith, on the phone number given. If you link to 'owners direct' online the ref is 8130604 or find it on AirBnB . You can book from there and check availability and prices.
The Cobbles is ideal for two or three people and can sleep up to four because there's a double sofa bed too. The location is perfect: it's quiet because it's on a little used pedestrian lane - no cars and no shops - so you get to enjoy it peacefully. But you can usually park for unloading about 30 seconds walk away in a short stay car park. You can use the Cobbles own parking space during your stay for a standard charge - this is up behind the Tate Gallery a few minutes walk from the Cobbles, overlooking Porthmeor beach. Once you are settled in you’ll find you are just a few paces from the lovely Harbour, the wonderful shops, restaurants and galleries, and all the beaches.
If you do a day visit to St Ives you find it's a great, exciting and beautiful place - but if you have a base right there in Downalong you realise what's so very special about it. You're almost on the beach - but not just one beach, and not just any old beaches - these are some of the cleanest beaches anywhere, with long sandy shores and big waves, and there are four of them in St Ives. Porthmeor, Porthgwidden and the Harbour beaches are right on your doorstep, with Porthminster just a few minutes further and Carbis Bay also in easywalking distance. This gives the place a lovely relaxed holiday feel but without a highly commercial flavour, so you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the UK which feels this good. You can go sailing from the Harbour, or surfing around the corner and the newly extended Tate St Ives gallery is almost on your doorstep. you can take an open top bus to tour around the area all the way to Lands End and many visitors find they don’t need a car and instead come by train as St Ives has its own railway station connecting to London Paddington. There is an airport at Newquay.
St Ives retains all the historic appearance and the culture which has shaped it, including of course the unashamed love of art which attracts and delights visitors today. There is St Ives School of Painting offering short courses at the top of the lane which you can book in advance. There are a wealth of really excellent places to eat and drink and buy local produce, clothes and crafts in independent shops. The climate is mild with remarkable light streaming in and spectacular sunsets.
The Cobbles is on the ground floor of a tall fisherman’s cottage in the oldest part of the town. Inside it has a washer dryer, smart oven and hob, fridge, instant central heating, super shower in the immaculate fully tiled ensuite shower room, heated towel rail, TV, DVD/CD player, radio, toaster. It is modern, clean and fresh, equipped with everything you need for cooking and the lighting is good - versatile for changes of mood and close reading. There is garden furniture on the tiled patio outside so that you can enjoy the morning sun. It's available for short stays as well as full weeks but in July and August it's full weeks only. I started running it in 2013 and it a pleasure. Nothing better than happy guests!
