Caisteal Grugaig (The Witches Castle) commonly known as Totaig Broch. These 'brochs' were built in the Iron Age and are over 2,000 years old. Many people lived inside these double walled structures. Some were over 12 metres high with many floors. A lot of the stones from this broch were taken to build Eilean Donan Castle which lies across the water.

Well Court, Dean Village, Edinburgh, was commissioned in the 1880s by Sir John Findlay. He bought land in Dean Village and had old tenements there cleared away, to allow his new housing to be built.
*
An advert from the 1880s described Well Court as, "providing homes of two and three rooms with conveniences, let to a respectable class of working men at rentals of £7 to £12 per annum."

I love this capture of The Milkman Coffee Shop, Cockburn St Edinburgh. The wet pavement reflects the light from the steamed up windows where people are sheltering from the rain and planning their evening. Looking forward to normality returning in the future.

On Islay you find the wonderful Kinave Chapel dating from late 13th or early 14th century. On a sunny day by the coast it looks idyllic, but the chapel has a bloody history.

It is the site of an atrocity committed on 5 August 1598 during the Battle of Traigh Ghuinneart. The conflict was over the historical possession of Islay, MacDonald and Maclean of Duart on Mull.

Sir Lachlan Mor Maclean brought 800 men to Islay but negotiations with Sir James MacDonald failed, and in the battle that followed, Sir Lachlan Mor Maclean and 280 of his followers were killed.

Most of the surviving Macleans returned to their boats, but a group of 30 was cut off and retreated instead to Kilnave Chapel. All but one were killed when the MacDonalds set fire to the chapel's thatched roof.

You need week's and week's IMHO. When we can travel, maybe Skye will be on your list of places to visit but until then we can dream.

A rare picture of me standing on the very pretty Fairy Bridge in Glen Creran. Some folks say we get a lot of rain here in Scotland, but just look how green everywhere looks. Well the poor wee midges are going to be starving this year without the tourists to feed on. Dream now and travel later. Take care and see you soon.

Midhope Castle is a wonderful 16th century tower house on the Hopetoun Estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is such a shame that it is just a shell now and you cannot visit inside. Most people today recognize it as Jamie Fraser's family home in Outlander.

Are you from Wisconsin?
The beautiful and imposing Dalkeith Palace was built in 1702 on the site of an earlier Castle of the 12th century.
In 1642 Dalkeith Castle was sold by the Douglas family to Francis Scott, 2and Earl of Buccleuch. The 2nd Earl's daughter married the Duke of Monmouth but the Duke was executed for treason.
His widow who held the Scottish title then had a new palace built, using William of Orange's Palace in the Netherlands as a model.
Since 1985 it has been leased to the University of Wisconsin system for a study abroad program. 60-80 students a semester live in the palace.
