We had a visitor in the night! 🦉Hoglets is so lucky to be surrounded by wildlife and it doesn’t take much effort to see it, as it’s right there on our doorstep! Whilst fetching some hay for the ponies we had someone watching over us in the Dutch barn… 👀

Good Moo'rning 🐮 it's another chilly day here on Exmoor. Although that won't stop us from a bit of exploring as there is still so much beauty to be seen at this time of year 🥾🧣 (Or you could just walk down to the local village of Exford for a glass of mulled wine ... definitely still classed as exploring). 🍷

Where will you explore? 📍🥾 Here are a few ideas of the places you can visit that are a short drive from Hoglets. You can find this in the cottage kitchen, right next to the huge map of the area. A perfect way to find some hidden gems in the moor. 🌳🐴

Which means cosy evenings in front of the fire, with a cup of complimentary or (your welcome hamper is filled with gorgeous local produce) and some of our very own homemade shortbread. Bring a book or settle down on our comfy sofa's infront of the tv 🪵 🎄

Another beautiful gem that has to offer. 📍Late Medieval Landacre Bridge
There is a lovely 7km circular walk starting at Withypool and follows the River Barle which then takes you onto the moors. 🌳
📍 , Exmoor is a 28 minute drive from Hoglets. It has its own water activity centre so you can hire out paddleboards/canoes etc (or bring your own) and enjoy this incredible lake! If you fancy staying dry, then you can take a peaceful walk around it instead. There is a little coffee shack and plenty of picnic space. The children’s park is set beautifully inside the woods with plenty to do for all ages, it really is a fab day out.

The glorious Lorna Doone which is a 30 minute drive from Hoglets. This beautiful place and the landscape of Exmoor is the inspiration for the author, RD Blackmore and you will understand why when you visit. 🍃🌳 The site is now being looked after by the so the car park is free for members. There is a sweet little tea room serving delicious refreshments and the walk along the river is stunning. ☕️ 🥾

Although we are now fully booked for the summer, we do have some availability this Autumn 🍁🍂 here at Hoglets, we have the perfect base for the cosiest Autumn getaway. You can enjoy crisp walks through Exmoor National Park or even a chilly wander across the North Devon beaches (which are always very quiet at that time of year) 🌊. Our local villages have gorgeous pubs, perfect for a warming lunch or dinner and then you can come back to Hoglets Cottage and light your own fire and snuggle down with a book and a hot chocolate or a film on our smart tv. ☕️ 🍁🪵
The beautiful Tarr Steps is a short 15 minute drive from Hoglets. It’s perfect if you fancy a beautiful walk and there are plenty of spots for you to explore and even swim, in the river. There’s an ice cream shack and café that serves cream teas or you could pack up a picnic and sit on the Rivers edge or grass bank. You get to drive through beautiful Exmoor en route and you might even be lucky enough to be greeted by some Exmoor ponies. 🐴 🌳
Our first guests are enjoying a well deserved holiday in Hoglets this week and have already been kind enough to let us know how much they love the cottage. We wanted to add a few quirky touches to Hoglets, like this beautiful birdcage. The cow in the boot room and school of fish on the bathroom wall. There are a few others which you can spot yourselves during your stay here with us 🦔
There’s something about a boot room that makes me think of crisp Autumnal walks, exploring streams and a few mud puddles! Then heading straight into the warm, taking off those muddy wellies and heading into the cosy lounge to read a book by the fire with a big hot chocolate… bliss! ☕️ 🍁🍂

*VALLEY OF ROCKS* is a 30 minute drive from Hoglets and is an explorers dream. The views of the sea from the top of the rock are incredible and there are plenty of walking trails for you to explore. There’s a vast amount of greenery, perfect for picnics and wild goats adorn the hills which we think is pretty cool 🐐 there are two big car parks and a sweet café serving ice cream and other refreshments. Do not forget your camera for this day out, it’s a truly beautiful experience 📸
