BOURNEMOUTH TOURIST TAX UPDATE

For any of our customers that have coach groups booked to stay in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from July 2024 onwards, please note the following news update regarding the local tourist tax . . . .

A Business Improvement District visitor charge has been introduced for eligible Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Accommodation Providers and will be applicable from 1st July 2024.

It is similar to a city tax that you may find abroad, and it is not included in your booking at present. The “Visitor Charges” will be charged locally upon check in at the rate of £2.40 per room, per night (inc VAT) for all rooms booked. Individual customers will be responsible for payment on arrival. For any bookings where 1st July 2024 falls during the stay, The “Visitor Charges” will be applicable to all remaining room nights from 1st July 2024 onwards.

All the money collected will go towards the Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Accommodation Bid.

This money will be spent on placemaking which will help the area to continue to provide green, clean and safe places. It will help to fund and create events like the Air Festival, Arts by the Sea, Poole Christmas Maritime and Christmas Tree Wonderland just to mention a few.

When work overlaps with holidays!

Sarah took the opportunity to check out some of Belfast's top attractions on a day trip to the city this month. She bumped into the 'big fish' but her top pick was the Titanic Belfast . . . . .

''This is definitely a must see for anyone visiting Belfast. An amazing 3D, audio-visual experience throughout, telling the story of the great ship from it's origins in the dockyards of Belfast to the tragic ending.

Located just outside the museum you'll also find the the SS Nomadic - RMS Titanic's tender ship and the last remaining White Star Line vessel in the world. Entry is included in the ticket for Titanic Belfast and an interesting addition to the visit if if you have time.

Tourist Tax is coming! Details are still vague on how and where it will be applied but since coach groups tend to use hotels with plenty of bed stock it seems likely it will have some affect on our industry. We're watching for updates!

CHEERS to World Cocktail Day

Did you know that Plymouth Gin is said to be one of the oldest gins in the world?

The first cocktail recipe book written by The Savoy Hotel references Plymouth Gin by brand in many recipes. One of the early recipes - The Gimlet - can trace it's origins back to the mix of Plymouth Gin and Lime Cordial 'prescribed' to sailors to provide their vitamin C. In fact the term Navy Strength has it's origins in the gin supplied to the ships setting sail from Plymouth Harbour.

Last month Tourism NI hosted over 150 international tour operators from across the globe and brought them together with 155 local tourism and hospitality businesses at Meet the Buyer 2024. Over 5,000 meetings took place helping to promote Northern Ireland as a world-leading visitor destination.

Team building over Tapas! 😋😉😁

The Ashley and Newey team were out in force last week, catching up over a selection of Greek and Spanish dishes at The Tapas Bar in Darlington. It was a lovely way to welcome our new member, Roxanne, to the team and always good to see 'Team South', Steve and Mandy, in person! We were also delighted that Rochelle made sure she had a babysitter for the evening so she could join the celebrations. We're looking forward to welcoming her back from her maternity leave later in June.
