Fire Festival season has begun 🔥🔥

It’s snowy and cold here at the Peerie Neuk ❄️❄️

Out for a quick walk and now back in front of the fire 💛

We are closed during January and mostly all of February (we have visitors for Up Helly Aa only) and it’s just as well with these weather conditions, although the Peerie Neuk is as cosy as can be!

Also, it’s time to have some time off for me too! Well, sort of I’m heading to a trade show in Glasgow in a couple of weeks time! No time to rest here 😂 might manage a wee trip somewhere!

Hope you’re having a cosy time for the last few days of the holiday. There’s snow forecast further south so I think mostly all of the UK will experience this cold snap 🥶

It’s been another year to remember at the Peerie Neuk!

We’ve met so many wonderful guests and can’t wait to meet more visitors to Unst in 2025!

Sadly we said good by to Filo, the scruffy chicken. Gone too soon but not forgotten, what a sweet and lovely peerie chickie she was.

We had visitors from all over the world 🌍 we’ve featured in ’s new Shetland Guide book, our first visitors of the year came for the Norik Up Helly Aa and our final visitors of the year were a lovely family from the Netherlands 😊

Looking back towards the Peerie Neuk from the Keen of Hamar. It’s interesting to see a view the other way round!

The Keen of Hamar nature reserve might look like a barren moonscape but from May through the summer it’s home to an abundance of tiny wild flowers, the most unusual being the Edmonston’s Chickweed, which can only be found here.

Also on the Keen of Hamar you can find one of the sky stops. This one explains all about the sunrise and where the sun rises on the longest and shortest days of the year. The bench points directly east facing the exact point where the sun will rise twice a year on the spring and autumn equinox 🌅

The view down through Baltasound is lovely too 💛

Well, that’s it for 2024! We waved off our last guests of the year on Sunday morning and got the Peerie Neuk all ready for Christmas and it’s as cosy as can be 💛🧡

It’s been a bumper year again and I’m so grateful to everyone who have chosen to stay in the Peerie Neuk on their trip to Unst 💛💛

Have a lovely Christmas wherever in the world you are and if it’s a tough time for you I hope it’s peaceful and calm.

There’s a least one otter, probably more that live down in Haroldswick. Maybe not as cute as Molly but so lovely to see 💛💛💛
