Its good to be back! Its been a while since I have been in Africa and since I have posted.

It’s been so good to get all our Covid postponed clients away to Africa and to finally relax and enjoy being on safari myself. Happy in the knowledge that tourism is booming on the continent meaning conservation and the livelihoods of my friends can resume more normal status.

As a change for me I am exploring some of what South Africa has to offer.

I cannot put into words how much I am looking forward to returning to Zambia. It has been far too long!

With the vaccination programme going well both here in the UK and in Zambia it won’t be long until we are all back enjoying the things we love, including exploring our beautiful planet and contributing to sustaining wildlife, habitats and communities.

A little bit of English wildlife for the weekend. I do need to make more of the winter wildlife, I just prefer the warmth of Africa to the cold UK mornings.

Love a kingfisher, this was on the River Stour in Dorset.

With some really positive news regarding testing and potential vaccinations it is safe to say I am really excited about the possibility of getting away soon... to immerse myself in nature and to experience things that I love.

This gorgeous little cub was in the Masai Mara, a place to which I can’t wait to return to very soon.

I so look forward to enjoying these moments again, and hopefully not before too long.

This was taken while I was being transferred to relief manage at a camp in the South Luangwa National Park. It’s always a pleasure to sit and enjoy wildlife but so nice to see clients reactions and the joy the wildlife we love and protect brings to them too.

During Movember I will be raising awareness for some of the mens health issues that this organisation strives to improve. Their goal is to reduce the impact of Prostate and Testicular Cancer and to reduce su***de in men.
-------------------------------
Through November I will be cycling 60 wet and muddy Kilometers each week for the 60 men that lose their lives to su***de each hour. If I get enough encouragement I might even take a razor to the facial hair that has been present on my face for the last 6 years :)
Follow on my personal instagram .tom
--------------------------------
Talking about our mental health is not a weakness and being open and honest with people close to you are the first steps.
-------------------------------
I am not posting my own funding page but instead will be sharing the page through which you can make donations (link in bio), this is a challenging time financially for many so if you cannot give I just ask that you make sure that the men in your lives, family, friends, loved ones, know that you are there for them.

Africa has some of the lowest rates of COVID yet the FCDO continues a blanket ban on all travel.

Please help us lobby what has become an ineffective government department to simply apply the same metrics as it has to Europe so that those who are keen to travel to low risk destinations at this time are able to do so more easily.

While we battle the virus in all our lives this continues to impact on the continent we love, the people and the wildlife.

Sarara in Kenya’s magical Mathews Range is one of the most spectacular places that I have been lucky enough to visit, the scenery, the safari and the community ethos is all simply wonderful.

Next year they have a superb offer with 3 nights at Sarara, 1 night experiencing the wild at a fly camping and 2 nights at Sarara Tree. If you travel in September or October you can get this 6 night trip for the price of 4 which is exceptional value! Add on another safari location or a beach stay for an unforgettable Kenya holiday. Get in touch if you would like more info.

With this time that we have and everything going on in the world reflection is important, who are you and who do you want to be? when we travel again what additional considerations will we have?

For me, beyond the safety of our clients and our partners I will be spending even more time working with my passions in mind, conservation, wild spaces, people and true wilderness.

Travel as a force for good whether it be our long haul Africa adventures or something closer to home.

Africa is waiting... and I cannot wait to get back as soon as I am able to.

Zambia is one of my favourite places on the planet, this photo from my time at Chinzombo was taken in July, when there is still colour in the Bush the days are cool enough to allow full day explorations of the wilderness and the lighting is great for wildlife photography.

Despite sometimes giving me the complete run around while I was living in the bush there is something so magical about these giants, something that we admire maybe, their composure, their strength, their family bonds...

whatever it is that draws us to wildlife and wild spaces it is important now more than ever to continue to protect them as well as to find new and more progressive ways to make conservation sustainable which can only be done with the help of the communities that call the land home.

Namibia is the PERFECT social distancing destination when we start to travel long haul... a self driving exploration of this stunning country allows you the freedom to travel at your pace. Stay in campsites with a fully equipped vehicle or in wildly luxurious properties Namibia has something for all.

Namibia is a country that has been severely effected by the lack of tourism in 2020 (like many in Africa), due to the low cost of travelling in Namibia profits are low but the lodges have had to still try and maintain their support of their employees and of the wilderness areas they are situated in.

Finding these Desrt Elephants close to Sorris Sorris in Damaraland was an awesome experience. The country is awash with natural beauty and truly magnificent wildlife.

Doing one of my favourite things in the Bush, just sitting and waiting. This was at the superb Saruni Samburu, I could have spent days in this hide sitting and chatting about conservation and community initiatives with my excellent guide companion.
*
Saruni is a fantastic example of how tourism can benefit conservation goals while having a positive impact on the surrounding people who have a right to the land and without their support any wildlife conservation efforts would, in time, become futile.
*
This is a subject I’m hugely passionate about so to talk more about this or anything else Africa related get in touch.

On world lion day it’s important to remember that these apex predators are reliant on our behaviour and support, we must continue to work towards protecting wild space in which they can not only survive but thrive. With the protection of large areas from encroachment and alternative uses all wildlife will find a way.

Walking safaris in Africa are one of the most rewarding activities to take part in. I love walking and being in the Bush and this gives you a completely different perspective of the environment which you may have seen many times before.
*
The Luangwa Valley is the home of the walking safari and over the next few weeks a small team will be walking the length of the valley to raise awareness and funds to continue to protect and support the wildlife and communities. Follow
*
Why not join in lacing up your boots and doing a walk yourself join family or friends (socially distanced of course) and then donate a little to this amazing cause... this weekend is due to be a beauty, what perfect timing.

Buy your tribal textiles mask from Honour Way Travel based here in the UK
*
Social responsibility is a concept that is bigger than you, it is the fact that you have an obligation to the greater population and the planet to behave in a certain way.
*
Masks are going to be mandatory in the UK from the 24th of July, this is not about you, your beliefs about coronavirus or the impact wearing one will have on you, it is about those around you and doing what is right. This action will help you save lives and allow businesses small and large to start operating which in turn will save jobs and reduce the hardship which many of us will face over the coming months and years... wear your mask... and why not do some more good and get it from a social enterprise in Zambia.
